Don't have the details yet but my friend has a sony DVD player that is 18 months old and now seems to scratch disks - it was bought from Curry's, what is the chance they will do something about it?

Zero chance I'd say, what with it being 18 mnths old. Scratching Discs how exactly?, sure it's not just down to a mucky lense making it jump?.

My ex wife gave me our 'broken' panasonic player which she said was jumping when playing discs, saying if I fixed it I could have it. I ran the lense cleaner through it once and it's never jumped since.

Will try and get more information - but thought that whe you buy something it should last as long as someone should reasonably expect it to? and for a DVD player it should be a lot longer.

My understanding was that an item should be 'fit for it's intended purpose' but once you're outside the manufacturers guarentee then you're on your own.

Its possible that the disc is not being spun properly and it is hitting off the actual tray. You might hear a slight scraping sound when its spinning.
