My amp has blown up and is being looked at by Onkyo. If I have to replace my 609, what would be the equivalent current Onkyo model?
    Would it be the nr626?

the 609 was thx certified wasn't it and i don't think the 626 is, any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Dave

Being THX certified just means that the manufacturer chose to pay THX some money. It doesn't directly mean a thing, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The 626 has better Audyssey than the 609 and a few other tweaks. The rest of the spec is basically the same.

Yep the 626 is the equivalent to your current model. The sony 1040 would also be worth a look at around this price point.

    thanks guys.

If it can't be repaired I might think about an upgrade to something better, like the Pioneer sc-lx57? Paired with KEF LS50's and a r200 centre. And maybe a REL 218 if I can stretch to it.

The LS50s really deserve better amplification to get the best from them. I would be looking at receivers about two levels above your current receiver to get the very best from the LS50s.

That's what I was thinking. I've heard them with the Pioneer lx57 and was very impressed with both 5.1 and stereo, both with and without a sub. I loved the R300's as well but they're a little too big for my situation.
