Anyone looking forward to this? Quite like Peter Kay's other comedies and this looks like it might be good, seems to have been advertised enough!

What are peoples thoughts? :)

Yeah, I think Kay can do justice to this kind of spoof.

Definatley has potential, my only issue with it is that the freaks who audition for these shows in real life are hard to top, truth is stranger than fiction and all that.

Going to be interesting to see what route he goes down, but I do enjoy PK's work, his standup is excellent as well.

Bring back max and paddy as well I say, great little show.

Yeah I know what you mean, hard to top the crazy people on the real show :rotfl:

But I agree, I loved Max and Paddy, and wish a second series would be on the cards. It seemed a lot of people didn't enjoy it, but I loved it (as well as Phoenix Nights!)

when is this on?

I think it's the 12th October, correct me if I am wrong

One of Kay's qualities/ skills isto observe the reality and put that in his shows. He has already done this on the end of every Phoenix nights he had real people auditions their act.

I wonder if we'll see some real auditions - like the Halifax man from the Office Xmas special?

Should be good. As longs as people dont expect to be belly laughing from the off - characters have to grow!

I'm hoping it will be great, however a couple of things concern me

01) thought I loved Phoenix Nights, Max & Paddy left me cold.
02) aren't reality show parodies a bit outdated?, iI mean even Hollywood
have done it f you watch That Peter Kay Thing, he's normally way ahead.

We will see !!

Can I ask why you didn't like Max and Paddy? I really enjoyed it, wish they would bring out a second series! :D

I didn't think much of it either ... and I'm guessing because Kay had McGuinness (Paddy) as co-writer whilst Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey (Ray Von and Jerry) who co-wrote Phoenix Nights with him had nothing to do with it.

Kay was saying for quite some time after Max and Paddy finished that he'd be getting back to Phoenix Nights for a third series. Looks like he's put that on the back burner.

Max and Paddy was excellent! How dare you, how very dare you.....:D

Kay was on the radio a while back promoting his kids show/ voice over, he said he's has written a third Phoenix's  I guess there is no rush to get it on.

Long live the Phoenix :D

Seems like a lot of people here don't like him then! Do you just not find him funny or just don't like him as a person? I've read a lot that his crew fall out with him a bit too, over him having his name in the Title etc... Is this true?

I re-watched his stand up shows a while back and didn't really find them funny (but I did first time round ) Much prefer the TV series he does. Doubt I'll watch another stand up if he does another.

Saw the trailer for this during last nights X-factor.
I thought it was going to be a series but it looks like a one-off from the website.
Still looking forward to it immensely.

Its by far the best comedy of the year!!!

I presume it can only really be appreciated by people who have watched the real shows, like the speech being the same as george sampsons.

Genius idea splitting it into 2 aswell.

Apart from the auditions bit at the start it's been quite poor i thought. Was hoping for better but just like a lot of other shows then.

I think it's all rather too close to the real thing to be effectively funny. All credit to the filmmakers who have gone to such great lengths to re-create the 'Saturday Night TV' event, but frankly where are the jokes Peter? It's a shame really. There are glimpses of the old Kaye genius (Two-Up, Two-Down - fantastic!) but it can't hold a candle to Phoenix Nights.

Best comedy of the year? I don't think so.

That was one of my few complaints - it actually felt like I was watching x factor or whatever when they were singing/interviewing! I'm still enjoying it and finding it funny as it has some hidden jokes like above which you will only appreciate if you have seen a lot of the programmes.
