Enjoying it so far, although it is a bit manic and not what I expected from the single player. Deffo one to play with friends!

Ok, spent a few hours on this last night, here's my (early) thoughts if anyone's considering buying :

1) It's going to need people, its not a SP game. The Bots are OK but even on EASY, its a struggle to get objectives done. The bots will camp on objectives and take you out, I had one map where I had to pick up some intel and deliver it to the other end of the map, I had 1 bot at the pick up point, one roaming between and 6 camping the drop off point and the ally bots seem to have stupid disease, they help but you just know its AI. I got taken out and the intel reset after a very short time - it was frustrating and not particularly enjoyable tbh.

2) The graphics are fairly ropey and there was some texture pop in. Some of the animations seemed stilted and false. Free running was OK, to be fair I haven't played the light body type who can wall jump and there are obviously lots of paths around some of the maps but these will need learning.

3) Character customisation is great, lots of streetpunk style with a few nods to other franchises - nice. There's a load of different weapons that I've nowhere near explored and these are all customisable - red dot sights, ACOG, extended mag, front grip, taped mag, drum mag, barrel vents. The attachments all seem to have negs as well as positives, so there'll be plenty of trying out - its good but we've seen it before somewhere

4) There doesn't seem to be a multiplayer lobby which, if I understand it properly is an utterly stupid decision. I think you just jump into a match then invite friends in as you go along - crap. There is the ability to create a custom match.

All in all, I'd give it a 6/10 from last night. With more people playing that could easily be 8 or 9/10 - its just that sort of game that needs real players to work together, support each other and achieve the objectives.

If other people are picking it up a quick tip - Play the Challenges first - accessed from the main menu. There's 4 challenges - Objectives, Parkour, Escort and Tower defense each has 3 levels of difficulty and the first 2 levels of each unlock weapon attachments, extra weapons and clothing for characters - its an advantage to do them early and you'll learn the game as you go.

Cheers
Loto

I am quite tempted in giving this a rent, does it have any form of SP or is it all about the playing with friends. Which sounds good if all your online buddies get the game.

Was thinking of picking this up today. Haven't heard much about it, just seen some review scores (not the review themselves), not that I trust magazines after HF...

SP is just MP with bots.

Think of it the same as Left 4 Dead.

I'm renting and will be on Sat, Sun, Mon & Tue from 8 till late, if you want to give it a try.

(i love it that my mrs works shifts ;) )

In the preview thread which is now closed, someone stated that this is £29 at Tesco, can anyone confirm this?

Add me "mEm Phunky" if you fancy trouncing some bots ;) this will be awesome at a LAN but sadly feels it's going to get old soon without playing with friends.

Having only a quick go so far it seems quite a poor game, the bots are really poor and so are the graphics, when you first start the customization and such is really slick but going into the game itself felt a bit of a let down, but that's only a very quick go, i'll give it some more time and see how it goes.

Sorry I didn't join you earlier - I'm still working my way through the challenges (which I'm finding surprisingly tricky!) to unlock all the gadgets and get to grips with what I'm doing.

I should be on again in a bit - I'll look out for you.

Too early to give much of a verdict, other than it initially seems a little underwhelming (poor graphics and annoying bots) but there does seem to be interesting gameplay variations.

Cheers,

Teddy

I've done the challenges and played through three of the security missions online (all were finished successfully - I seemed to be playing in a decent team that was working together).

First impressions are that Brink has lots of potential and some great ideas, but unfortunately most of it feels underdeveloped. Occasional bad lag doesn't improve matters, but then I guess it is the first day of release.

I think this could be a decent multiplayer title if given a bit of love and attention - let's hope the developers don't just abandon it.

Cheers,

Teddy

Ok a bit more time and a game with Teddy and things are looking up, it's growing on me, Teddy told me to play the challenges, that is definatly good advice as first off i tried the campaign which is just the online with dodgy bots, the challenges teach you the game.

Now i have more of an understanding and real people to play with it's fun, it has weak bots and dodgy texture loads on certain bits and iv'e had one bit of really bad lag, but apart from that i'm enjoying it more now than earlier :)

Just had a couple of great online games where i think i mostly won them for the team, the first one i just set up camp at the defense point as an engineer, put my turret on one door and trained my machine gun on the other and held the room with the help of a medic.

The second game stated off where you had to blow a pillar up, so i stated as a solider and managed to fight my way there and lay the bomb and defended if until it blew, then we had to escort a tank to a point on the map, it turns out the route was blocked by a bridge which once again i blew up, finally a terminal had to be hacked so i changed class to the one that hacks (i forgot the class name:blush:) and hacked the computer, job done :smashin:

Iv'e gone from dodgy game, to ok game and now good game in the space of a few hours

Just proves don't judge a game you do not fully understand yet :lesson:

Got this today since I had a bit of cash on a gift card and was sick of playing Fifa 11 constantly. Really don't know what to say about it.

First things first;

The bots on your team are pretty awful. They supply no covering fire or really help with objectives at all, which is extremely frustrating.

The parkour is good when you can find good places to actually utilise it.

It seems like it takes forever to kill people sometimes, and you're constantly reloading it seems (also, I'm using drum magazines).

The lag online at the moment is pretty shoddy.

I like the concept of not having to sit around in lobbies and it's main concentration on team work, and other things about Brink. But to anyone looking to buy it, I'd say at least hold off for a while.

Underneathe all the annoyances, and after some polishing it could be a solid game. But at the moment, I wouldn't say it's worth the money. Especially with the single player "campaign" just technically being multiplayer with bots and some cutscenes.

I've got this, but won't play it until the Gears3 beta finishes tomorrow. Hopefully a few people will be playing it by the time I get on :)

Had a little blast on this yesterday, primarily the challenges to try and learn the ropes.

I like the team based play although the bots are useless and some humans don't seem much better!

I echo other peoples thoughts though, graphically it does leave something to be desired, it just doesn't look crisp at all. Gunplay feels really solid though, weapons feel like they have some weight behind them apart from the nades which I know are only supposed to knock you over so perhaps that's why.

I can see it growing as a good tactical team based shooter once everyone starts to get to grips with various weapons and upgrades.
