Brennan B2 connectivity

I need a narrow profile CD player and have come across the Brennan B2 which seems to offer a lot more than just CD playing. It will need to share the same optical cable to the receiver as my record deck. The Brennan seems to offer two options.

1) line-out which I could plug in to the spare line-in on my Pro-Ject Optical Box E Phono Stage and thence optical out of the Phono Box. The possible downside is using an analog connection and going through a second DAC in the Phono box;
2) mini-SPDIF out and connect that with an SPDIF switch, together with the SPDIF-out from the Pro-ject Phono Box to the optical cable to the receiver. The possible downside is the need for a switch.

I hope that makes sense. Any thoughts on which is the best option please.

If there's a better sub £500 CD player, narrow, in black with the same connectivity requirements I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Many thanks.
