Bravia S Series problem - white shows as magenta

Bravia S3020 - about 3 years old.

Watching top gear at my parents and anything of a certain shade of white (while in vivid mode or custom) would show as vivid magenta - almost like a chroma key substitution.

Obviously leaving it off vivid mode solves the immediate problem, but doesn't leave much scope for adjusting the image since all custom settings cause the same problem.

I've tried to google the problem but nothing similar to this issue has came up. So now I throw it out to you guys!

Presumably this happens on all sources?

I haven't looked at the basics it seems! I will give a few different sources a try using different cables.

It is obvious though that switching between vivid to normal and vice-versa shows the problem immediately.
