So now the R2 is out which version should i get - R1 or R2.

Same features although the R2 has 2 trailers bu aparently the cuts are slightly different. According to the link on the Rewind comparison the UK cut was altered to avoid an 18 rating.

So the R1 is Mel's cut surely. What do people think/recommend?

Got the R1 ages ago and ain't gonna get the R2 for the extra trailer!

I did, however, find the R1 picture quality poor - lots of speccles.

If you want to see a bit more throat slitting then I suppose the R1 is the one to go for.

IMO it's not worth fussing over the throat slitting thing.
But the PAL version will be 4% too fast. But will have a slightly better picture in theory.
I guess it's down to relative picture quality.
The R1 picture is not very good at all. It's like they let the print run across the floor when it was being telecined. Dirty.

    HI,

Come on, guys! It's not THAT bad, is it? I watched the R1 version about three weeks ago, and whilst it ain't the best transfer, it's definitely not the worst. I was watching it on a 4:3 28" Nicam Stereo colour Tv, rather than a Projection Screen, so I guess that might have made a difference, however I've seen far worse transfers of movies.

Despite this, I'd still get the Region 1 version. It's uncensored, it's on one DVD, and bar one trailer, is exactly identical to the UK double DVD version that came out on Monday 29th Jan!

P.S. Also check out the thread, started by myself, entitled "Pointless R2 DVD release" or something similar.
