What are the first few words that come into your mind when I mention the word Xbox.

I am trying to find out the general public image of the brand so thought this was a good place to start.

    Thanks in advance.

Microsoft, Powerful, Fun, Underrated, blurry image (Xbox, not Xbox 360), multiplayer, Live.

Thats about it for first thoughts with just the word.

I'm not going to win many fans here, but:
    for Xbox:
Microsoft, Profit, Pretender and bulky (that's just a brand impression as i have never used an xbox, honestly)
    For Xbox360:
Graphics, Power, Value, Speed (and i re-he-healy like my 360)

    What about words like:
    Cool
    Cutting Edge
    Youthful
    Stylish

    Does anybody dis-agree with these?

Its not so much for xbox 1 vs xbox 360. Its more like, when you think of Playstation, it is a brand which has developed from the PS1 to the PS2 and now is even the PSP. They have done this because the Playstation brand has a desirable image, so they will never loose the Playstation brand name. This is in contrast to Nintendo who name each of their consoles a different thing relying on the consumer to be able to recognise the Nintendo brand. Microsoft and Sony initially didnt want their corprate logos attached too closely to their gaming consoles to avoid inter-product brand associations.

So, in conclusions, the word Xbox as a brand name, what does it represent to you?

Just as Ferrari has the image of being sporty and desirable, etc, etc.

    Thanks Again

    In one word POWER.

The xbox was and still is the most powerful last gen console

the 360 leads the next gen with its power.

    other than that

    fun, sociability, underdog, beast.

im not a fan boy I just like games, i sell games. thats what comes to mind when you mention the xbox brand.

The original Xbox is dark green though :/

    As for the brand?

    Multi-player.

Can't think of any other console past where I've spent so much time with friends on it (over a year and a half of Saturday nights playing Halo 2, 4 Xbox System Link 12-14 player)

The brand right now doesn't really give me that impression right now (apart from maybe cutting edge). In a year or two I'm sure they'll all apply once the X360 is nicely installed. The original Xbox wasn't any of those things tbh and its legacy is still around.

OK, let's see, random word association (and yes I am aware of the paradoxes here):

    Innovative
    Community
    Derivative
    Progressive
    Corporate
    Attention to detail
Sterile, wants to be different, but hasn't figured out how to be yet
    Customisation
    Mature
Fun (in a tanktop standing in the corner drinking shandy)

Not for me it isnt as im colour blind so it looks black to me and as its about personal perception it stands (same with the kid destroyer as it fell on me m8s son when he yanked it least it stopped him doing it again!).

Xbox360 as a brand thoughts would be, delicate, loud, high end pc quality and what the word joypad was intended for as its the most fun Ive had in my hands without having to shave them :D

The problem with the xbox black or green argument is slightly floored. There is no such colour in nature as pure black apart fom Octopus ink... and most of the time black is usually a very very dark shade of green (with a multitude of other colours mixed in). Microsoft probably chose a slightly more "green" back dye for the xbox and kept it because of the black/green comments. All publicity is good publicity and all that. Also I've noticed my xbox get slightly more green with age as the palctic ages.

Anyway, as for the brand image are various consoles in my eyes.

    Xbox
    -Underated
    -More mature than other consoles
    -Halo
    -Online Multiplayer

    Playstation
    -Industry leader
    -Lots of games
    -Uninnovative alot of the time
    -Emotion engine my arse
    -GTA

    Nintendo
    -Fun
    -Party Games
    -Mario
    -Innovative
