    hi all,

I got yesterday Brainwave v880 (a Momitsu clone) , which has Sigma Designs EM8500 chip inside for scaling and de-interlazing.

PQ is excellent very near my reference HTPC:Zoom/VinDVD Platinum/FFDShow - Radeon 9700Pro.

Positive thing is the fact that 720p works with my non-HDCP compatible projector, Yamaha LPX-500.

    Hi Tapani,

That's very interesting! May I ask where you got the player from? I've been following the threads over on www.avsforum.com on the Bravo D1 and Samsung HD931. The v880 has the same SD chip as the D1 which appears to deliver a better picture than the Faroudja chip in the Samsung. Does the v880 output 720p through the component outputs as well as the DVI, like the D1 does?

    Hi Steve,

    I got it from Germany http://www.qbytes.de/ .

It use's the same chip as D1 does, so I suspect it does 720p through the component outputs as well.

I'm critical :) for me only the DVI is good enough.

    Hi Tapani,

Thanks for the link - €249 and multi-region too! It's getting better. Have you tested the MR capability?

I put a region 1 dvd into the machine ... I had to open the cover to get the dvd out, irritating.

It's a mystery for me how to switch player multi-region cabable. Naturally there is no mention in the manual.

It seems that there are some bugs in the player's firmware. For example, sometimes Eject works sometimes not.

    Hurrah!

Momitsu hack does work. Now my player is region-free.

How does this compare with more conventional players? I've got an ageing Sony 725 connected to a Panasonic AE100 via a Pro-V de-interlacer and I'm pretty happy with the picture, but always looking to improve. I've been holding on for a DVD-A/SACD progressive PAL&NTSC player, but at this 250 euros I'd consider this player just for an improvement in picture quality.

    Cheers

Does anyone know of a UK supplier with 880's?

I've tried a couple of German places but they're out of stock.

    Thanks

    Paul
