No cinema up here in Shetland so been looking forward to this for a long time. Usually buy reg 1 for a prog-scan picture and usually cheaper dvd. However the release of the reg 1 has now been deferred, the region 2 is still coming out as scheduled. I heard the reg 1 delay was because Moore was going to add some new material. However I can't wait and am just going to order the region 2. My question is - "Does anyone know what the extra material is about ?". You can make a pretty good guess but it would be interesting to know for certain.

well the R2 that copmes out tomorrow is supposed to be featureless and a SE is scheduleed for later. Momentum UK chose to release a barebones strightaway while MGM will just bring out a SE.
The DVD tomorrow should only have a trailer or so.

But if momentum were really that nice they'd give us the barebones for a tenner and the SE for 20quid later, as I'll buy both

i've been a fan of Moores work for years and i would rather trust him than a good many other commentors. as for this "Hardy" chap i know nothing of him - who pays him? what agenda does he have? i dont know the answer to these questions, do you?

i watchwed both "bowling" and read "Stupid White Men" on saturday - the two go pretty much had in hand.

    have you read the book?

i notice that your avatar is i picture of "Junior" is that ironic or do you like the guy? and what is the ABD?

    Try clicking on the link!!!!

I also find Moores work entertaining but I think he (and people like Mark Thomas in UK) only ever show one side of the argument, which does bring into question the whole validity of their 'political' arguments.

Regardless, I view these only as a start to a debate, not to be taken as fact.

I don't find it surprising that no-one from big-business/government etc talks to Mark Thomas anymore as they know they will be editied down and their answers will be rearranged and out of context to provide 'good' TV. Although they expose hypocracies (and lets face it we are all guilty of those from time to time) they do not provide daming evidence of wrong doing but do mislead people into believing things are FACT when in truth they are as much a distored image as the oiginal.

You often find the truth is somewhere between the two arguments.

Moore criticises parts of the american way of life (being an american he probably knows more about that that any of us) and it would be foolish not to expect a backlash from those he criticeses and blames.
    I`ll buy BfC today

    Thanks for the info Lux.

I didn't even know that a special edition was due on this film.Guess i'll just have to wait a little longer.

Has anyone else noticed that his book "Stupid White Men" is STILL No.1 in the bestsellers charts - 7 months after it was initially released in paperback? That's over 432,000 sold in the UK!!

    Confucius,

i have just deleted a long and involved reply to the above post, but i've decided not to post it, as it would be a fruitless excercise, we'll draw a line under this. We'll stick to arging the merits of speaker cables, sound formats and image transfers, after all that is why we are all here.

The post says more about you than you will ever know

I have a friend who thinks that Bush is the best president since his pa. She also thinks that Jesus is a UFO pilot. Not that the two are related, but, you know, it's interesting.

I watched Bowling For Columbine last night, and I've just read the criticism and allegations about deception on the website.

Whilst the editing of certain speeches is a dodgy method, the rest of the arguments don't stand up. The website seems to be under the impression that if you rubbish this documentary, it means that everyone should be allowed a gun. I know it categorically states that it isn't trying to do this, but that's a pretty childish technique for covering up your agenda!

Bowling for Columbine was thought-provoking, and asked some very interesting questions. The comparison with Canada (a poorer country, but with more guns per capita) was fascinating. I was slightly astonsihed that no-one locked their doors: surely that was staged??

I think George W Bush is a moron (in a medical sense).

However, I'm not sure if that makes him a good or bad president.

confucius, i drew a line under this yesterday and wont be drawn into it again. you have your opinion and i have mine. i think your wrong and you think i'm wrong - but hey thats free speech for you.

i'm not going to be drawn into a debate about "junior" you think he has a "keen mind" then fine you think that.

as i said that says more about you than you will ever realise.

to quote my bank "no further correspondance will be entered into."

I'm sure he found a few locked doors, but I seriously doubt it was staged. I'm from a (admittedly small) Canadian town, and we only lock the doors when we go away for the weekend. We've never locked our doors in the middle of the day, with people in the house. (like the people in the film)

And on these boards, just like in real life, I'll stay as far away from Bush as possible. ;)

Canada seems far more relaxed than the states, in my limited experience. Maybe it was just because I had driven through detroit first though, but the sense of relief was almost tangible as I crossed the border. Might just have been because of Detroit, though.... ;)

This thread is veering off topic.
Can we get back to the original topic and question asked and not turn this thread into an debate over George Bush.

If not, I will have to delete a few posts to clean this thread up.

    Thanks
    Greg

Getting this post back on topic......

1.) I thought BfC was interesting.

2.) Greg you have very nice breasts. How long have you been a woman and what is Greg short for?

3.) Is Michael Moore some sort of love child of Patric Moore?

I think 'interesting' is probably the right word to describe it. Thing is, I hated his book, 'Stupid White Men', but I loved 'Roger and Me'. Go figure.

Has anyone actually bought the thing yet? Worth the asking price?

Back on topic, I'm going to wait until the version with all the bells and whistles comes out to pick it up. (unless the Region 2 version drops to a rediculously low price)

I've got it. what do you mean worth the asking price??
if u like the film then the 15.99 I paid are ok, if u hate it then it's too much. I just couldn't wait for an online store to ship it so bought it in the highstreet. Haven't done that for a long time.

The DVD only has a trailer but 5.1sound and anamorphic 1.85 picture.

Just wondered if it was worth waiting for a) it to fall to £7.99 in the sales in about 8 weeks time, or b) waiting for the bells and whistles version or c) renting and then waiting for the bells and whistles version. I think C.

Staying aside from political opinion, I've read Stupid White Men and used to always watch TV Nation, this film to me is worth watching once but that's enough.
    I would rent it. :)

Just watched it. I will never watch any of charlton hestons films again, the man is a racist bigot ("wise white men"). Michael Moore is a very brave (or foolish) man, nobody seems to be abled or allowed to question the US goverment. I would be very worried about my head being blown off by some NRA nut if i were Mr Moore.

The feature "Return to Littleton/Denver 6 months after release of Bowling for Columbine " could be interesting - I wonder who they'll include
