3.5 years ago i had some of the cellar rooms in the house converted. At the time i thought i would place some pics on the DIY thread of the work as it went along. Of course it never happened so i thought it was time i got me backside in gear.

From the main hallway the stairs lead down to my domain.

The hallway of course is the location for the booze fridges.

(Before i post anymore pics can anyone tell me how i post them as pics that will upload straight to the page bit stumped on that?)

EDIT As of Feb 09 ive just given the room a lick of paint so have re shot the pictures as a result the HTPC now appears in the pictures prior to it actually being built.

Thanks will give it a try(Thanks cracked it). Heres a few pics of the main room anyway
Towards the back My PJ an optoma HD81

The main bulk of kit a sony 333es amp and a SkyHD box with 1TB and the HD81 control box
IMG_1015.jpg

The otherside a pioneer 757 (its on large isolation feet to improve ventilation)

IMG_1018.jpg

Theres an Olson mains block on the floor though i dont think it does much as the room has its own dedicated mains spur.
Speakers as you can see are Mordaunt Short 900 series (how i wish id gone for the 500's)

What's the need for 1tb of space in the Sky box?

Oh and nice set-up :)

Well the short answer as to why as ever would be because you can.
In truth though a lot is to do with how quickly you can fill up the drive with HD movies on the standard unmodified SKYHD box (cheers to all the guys on the sky HD forum who talked me through that one).
THB i ve got a 500gig drive in the sky+ box in the living room though that backfired as its got enough power rangers and Dora the explorer stored on it to make me want to pull my eyes out.:suicide:

Nice setup mate - saw the legs off that cabinet, give it a good sanding, add some mouldings and give it a light stain and it'll look the business.

Anyway if its a bit of MDF you hanker after lets go to the games room

I never could play pool so it had to be air hockey
IMG_0667.jpg

Not that im much good at that either

And for the true chipboard lover the retro consoles are housed in one of Ikeas finest (Prefab by thy name)

Do i spy a 3DO there by any chance? :smashin:

:clap:Top man indeed you do first system i bought got it in my 5th year as a student a couple of months after they pulled the plug on it for about £250 i got the system and 30odd games still didn't keep my out the pub but passed many an hour. I may get rid one day but not till i ve completed star control 2.

The latest piece of kit is an HTPC

IMG_0286.jpg

I thought this would take a week or 2 been about 6 months

Spec is an Intel 2180 CPU with 2 gig of ram. An ATI 2400XT and about 1.5TB of HDD
Of course we have Blueray and HDDVD
IMG_0272.jpg

In addition as sound decoding is OB i went for a xonar D2 sound card as it uses the same DAC's as some of the high end Denon DVD players

The build wasn't too bad software has been hard work to sat the least. I started out with XP MCE but end up using media portal. I ve come close to having things set up a couple of times only to have to go back to a complete system reinstall but im more or less there (The guys on the HTPC forum have been very helpful Theydon in particular) .

I ve got about 160 of my films backed up which MP will play back (though i need to do some tweeking)

HD playback works in testing though i there have been some issues

Ah i always wanted one. In my view it still stands out as the only console apart from the PS3 that looks at home in the rest of an AV setup.

Nice work on the HTPC, i've just built my first PC and am itching to try building one to hook up to the TV to put all my DVDs on.

Great setup mate - loving it.

As for your cabinet, some people don't appreciate anything unless its glossy black and the new latest colour, don't mind then. I think it looks great.

And get this you could get an add on module that allowed you to watch films stored on an optical disk!

Job for the weekend was to add a tv to the games room
cables had been hidden when i did the cellar conversion 4 years ago
30082008082.jpg

So at last i fitted a tv up on the wall
31082008090.jpg

i did at least sort out the mess my son had made last week
31082008083.jpg

its hard to get a decent pic of the tv as its in an alcove in a cellar plus being fed a picture via coax is somewhat underwhelming

Picture signal needs some work
