I don't know if there has been a similiar thread before but has anyone bought one or more DvD's they bought ages ago and have still to watch? I watched The Grudge (Sarah Michelle Geller version).....it scared the pants of me. I purchased the original version about 6 months ago and have still to watch it. (TOO SCARED!)

I sold 75% of my DVD collection back in Jan 06 and there were disks in there still in the wrapper. I expect they still would be now! :)

I tend to impulse buy DVDs when a Special Edition comes out, and if I have seen the film before, I often never get round to watching it. More money than sense, you might think - well, my credit card company seem to like me!

Here's my most recent unwatched purchases:-

    Gladiator - 3 disc Extended (R2)
The Frighteners - 4 disc SE (German R2)
Dances With Wolves - 4 disc R3 (with 'leather' packaging)
    Toy Story 1+2 SE (R4)
    The Fly SE (R1)
    Platoon - 2 disc SE (R2)
    Stealth (R3)
    Brothers Grim (R3)
High Tension aka Switchblade Romance (R1 - Unrated)
    Doom (R3)
    The Island (R1)
Sin City - Recut, Extended, Unrated (R1)
    Straw Dogs (R2)
Exorcism of Emily Rose SE (R1 Unrated)
    Troy (R3)
    Chronicles of Riddick (R1)
    Gothika (R1)

I urge you to break the seals on 24 and X-Files. Both are the cream of tv shows.

    Enjoy :)

Nope, all mine get opened instantly, there are just so many discs that get scratched in the post, but even if I wasn't checking the discs were ok they would still get opened.

I can't even play rental discs on my Sony player, most of them are just too damaged and just skip and stutter through the whole film!. Does everyone just throw rental discs around the room or something?.

I don't know the exact number but I would guess that I have around thirty DVD's that I have yet to watch. Some are movies I have already seen and some are ones I bought on impulse and have yet to see.

All those together with the new ones I keep buying and all the stuff on my Sky+ Hard drive  ...

Personally I blame Razor and his 360 game invites....I never get to watch anything due to playing on the 360 all the time (only kidding mate:smashin: )

I do the same. I always check for scratches and other crap that ends on discs like glue. I recently checked all 36 DVD's from my Babylon 5 Superbox as one person reported almost all his discs were scratched. Thankfully, all mine are fine. With my Star Trek DVD's are check for cracked discs as I had 6 seasons of Trek (TNG and DS9) crack over time due to poor packaging. I even got cracked discs when brand new.

I recently used dvd.co.uk for the first time and bought CSI season 4. all the discs in part 1 was scratched and looked second hand due to the fingerprints over the discs.

If any discs have minor scratches. I will play the disc on fast foward to make sure the disc plays fine to the end. If it is something I haven't seen then, I look away from the screen so I don't spoil it.

Heh, If you thought the remake was scary I wouldnt watch the original, you'll probabaly die of fear.

With its crappy hollywood ending and its very poor attempt to explain things, the remake lost nearly all of what made the original film such a scary experience.

Anyway, I have around 40 films I havent watched yet. I buy far too many DVD's

Still got a few unopened and still never seen, even though they're not the newest DVDs in the world :

    The Pianist
    Alien 3
    Alien Resurrection
    Planet of the Apes
    Die Hard With A Vengeance

BTW, the recommendations around 'The Grudge' - I saw the Sarah Michelle Gellar remake recently too and was scared throughout. Are the Asian originals that much better, don't the subtitles detract from the experience? Just wondering...... right, what to watch now?

I received Close Encouters in June 2001 (I think). I remember ordering from DiscEmporium who used to sometime post Region 1 discs two weeks before release. I can remember thinking, 'Great, I'll get to watch it a whole 2 weeks before anyone else.'

Spotted it the other day still in it's wrapper, completely unwatched!!!

I can thoroughly recommend joining a dvd rental club. I'm a member of the Amazon service and since joining the number of dvd's Ive bought has at least halved. There was so much I bought that I thought was "cheap" and I hadn't seen it and then stuck it on the shelf. It was never as cheap as renting it though;) Plus with the Amazon service you get 10% off their dvd retail prices. I've never had a problem with them being scratched, at least not to the point of being unwatchable.

Well no, as long as you can read, subtitles don't detract from a film really. At least not for me.

The original version of the movie has a very disjointed narrative, and some people didn't like that. The remake tried to improve in that area, but the way it explained things didn't work that well in comparison and actualy took away from the overal expereince. As i mentioned, the ending of the original is also much more chilling than the nonsensical "jump moment" the remake throws at you.

The original isn't as good as other japanese movies like Dark Water or Ringu IMO but its still far better than the remake.

I bought The Prisoner (Box Set) the day it was released on DVD, not seen it yet.

Must have around 30 to watch, the only one unopened is The Jap version of I Robot that came with the Sonny head.

Purchased T2 special edition (with metal sleeve) in LA October 2000. Still wrapped like new awaiting viewing. I also have a few laserdisc which I haven't watched yet. God knows how long I've had them.

One of these days I'll catch up.

Have plenty still not opened, tend to be ones that I have seen before and fancied watching all over again in 5.1.

Have all the Star Wars ones and I've only ever watched the first one throughout.
