I've recently got a BOSE Soundbar 900 after replacing a SONOS Arc,

However I'm having issues getting the Xbox Series X and the Bar/App to play back ATMOS.

I've read elsewhere that when the BOSE App is showing the Bar is playing LPCM 5.1.2 - that this is in fact Lossless Dolby ATMOS, only that the Xbox is doing the decoding, and so the bar is playing the audio.

I have a LG C1 - and it is reporting Dolby ATMOS in the TV Information menu.

The Xbox Series X is configured to Dolby Audio in the Settings - as per the TV correctly engaging Dolby Vision & ATMOS.

If i switch to the native Disney+ TV app, and play Endgame for example, it will show Dolby ATMOS in the Bose App.

So this issue is only linked to the Xbox Series X.

The question is,

Should the app/bar still show Dolby Atmos in the App,

or,

Is it showing LPCM 5.1.2 because the Xbos is decoding the Atmos sound & passing raw uncompressed Atmos audio to the bar?

Which is better / preffered?

Any help is appreciated :)

Are you sure the Xbox can decide Atmos or just pass it? Same for the TV.

Just because it says Atmos, DTS X, hd master, etc doesn't mean it decides it.

Some sources can decide it like a good BD player. But typically a avr does the decoding, and knowing Bose they don't pay the royalty free so you need to send decoded pcm audio.

I'd replace the soundbar with a avr and start getting seperates,.so you're not locked out on sound upgrades (soundbar are throwaway non upgradeable products)
