Shh, don't say, but it sounds a lot like Sonos

Bose has sent word about their new SoundTouch Wi-Fi music systems, available from today.

The SoundTouch systems let you stream music wirelessly in any room from the web or your stored collection by simply pressing a button, in a similar fashion to the Sonos systems, although Phil Hess, of Bose, claims it to be, "unlike any home sound system available today.”

Each SoundTouch component connects directly to the Internet using your existing home Wi-Fi network and are designed to automatically receive software updates to add functionality and content.

The systems will first offer Pandora and other popular music services like Deezer and iHeartRadio are promised to follow.

Three one-piece systems are on offer from today:

The SoundTouch 30 Wi-Fi system features exclusive 'waveguide' technology and a new proprietary woofer.

The SoundTouch 20 Wi-Fi system is more compact at about 17.8cm H x 30.5cm W x 10.2cm D, whilst the SoundTouch Portable combines full-range audio and a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery in a speaker no bigger than the average book.

The SoundTouch line is promised to expand to offer a 'vast selection of products,' according to Bose and later this year, the Wave music system will be offered in a SoundTouch version for the bedroom or kitchen.

Users can start with any SoundTouch system and add others for a multi-room experience: play the same music in every room, or different music in different rooms, indoors or out.

Of course there's a SoundTouch app then lets you use your smartphone, tablet or computer take control, allowing you to browse and discover content and operate any system in any room. The new SoundTouch app is compatible with most Android, iOS, Mac OS and Windows systems.

Bose will also offer the SoundTouch controller, as a peripheral, which features a circular design, volume dial and proximity sensor as well as an OLED display.

For added flexibility, SoundTouch music systems are also AirPlay enabled, so owners can stream content from their iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch.

The Recommended Retail Price of the SoundTouch 30 system is £599.95; the Recommended Retail Price of the SoundTouch 20 system is £349.95; and the Recommended Retail Price of the SoundTouch™ Portable system is £349.95.
