Not to sure if anybody is aware of this but if you've had the unfortunate experience of buying anything or intend to buy from these factory outlets (or there show store Regent St) you might want to be aware of there sales practices.

I was in one of there stores recently having a look around and I popped into one of there demo rooms to have a listen to there lifestyle systems. Now on the side was several documents that must have been left there by accident, in these documents it outlined Bose's sale's technique and there returns rate for some of there products.

I couldn't believe some of the stuff I was reading in this document. In these store's they have what it seems to be a hole scripted process, where the "sales demonstration specialist" had to learn a 3 page script that they had to recite to everyone that they manage to put through there theatre show and there seemed to be a separate script that they use for customers that they demonstrated there products to. The document also stated that they are targeted on putting people through this show. Now this theatre show is supposed to demonstrate there top of the range lifestyle 48 system, where in reality it is kinda of like a brainwashing marketing tool that they use.

So out of curiosity I went into there theatre show and sat through all the spill that the sale's guy spewed out (just like in the document said scripted all the way word for word) and then was treated to some of the greatest marketing video I have ever seen which seemed to play on peoples emotions. Then the sales guy come in halfway through and took these large speaker grills of the wall which covered there small speakers. At the end of the show I was then invited through to another room where again the sales guy started going through the same scripted stuff that was in the document.

At the end I had this sale's guy (or robot) try to cleverly take down my details for what I could only see as to add me to some database. I kindly refused then left the store.

I couldn't believe there returns rate on some there of there products. There Triport In Ears had a returns rate of over 40% there lifestyle products had a returns rate of 17% and there SoundDocks 30%. Infact when I was in the store 2 customers had returned items due to being faulty.

I think out of this experience it has taught me one thing and one thing only, I will never again consider buying anything from this micky mouse outfit.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

You've come on the biggest AV forum in the UK to tell people that Bose products aren't the best thing ever and their marketing strategy is questionable?

I think a few people here may know that.

Dave ;)

Did you know that they did the hole script thing? I think it was just to make people aware of the fact how they operated.

I'm a little disappointed to be honest. I had assumed based on the OP's previous posts that we were going to learn that the World Trade Centres were brought down by thousands of strategically placed Wave Radios.

That's there new model the thermite wave;)

:D

That Bose advertise on the back page of Sunday supplements where you see the support stockings and glucosamine health pills adverts says it all really.

I had a demo of the Bose Cinemate today in a local av store and I was suprisingly impressed actually. Don't agree with the dodgy sales tactics but is the Cinemate virtual surround that bad? Sub and 2 speakers with remote= £500.

Heh, a good few years ago was in a Bose outlet store in Florida and was witness to the same "demo" - thought it was just a US sales technique.

Then a few years later visited again and was encouraged to review the demo for a second time with the tempation of a free gift, gave in for the fact it was cool in there - was very excited by the frizbee as it turned out :rotfl: Whole thing is just hilarious... The fizbee gave more enjoyment...

Bose stuff is style over substance.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Cinemate was the left over speakers of all the dodgy 321 systems that they had returned.

Just to add that I do't think that the Cinemate is a virtual surround system is it?

Worrying thing will be that it probably won't sound as good, when you get it home.

My brother bought a system 12 I think it was - and it never ever sounded like it did in the store... looked great turned off though

What I hate about Bose is the fact there NO prices on any of their adverts and I have had trouble finding them on their website too.

Your right there they do look quite good.
I'm sure that they must have special acoustic treatment to there demo rooms, I've heard someone mention this before somewhere.

I thought about getting a bose wave for the kitchen but they really hiked the prices this year to nearly £400. I compares it to the Roberts and the Yamaha Tsx models and there was no comparison - for half the price I got DAB ( extra cost on the wave) and a quality i pod dock ( lacking on the wave). How Bose have got the temerity to charge soo much money for essentially an out dated platform is beyond me. I ended up buying the Yamaha tsx 120 for £120 at Richer sounds - sounds just as good and is prety cool looing alarm clock as well....

I think you made the right choice there, I listened to the wave radio and no way was it worth that sort of price, I think they where selling the new ones at £499 and the refurb ones at £449 depending on what colour.

If you have to ask the price you probably couldn't afford the product - and you almost certainly also have more sense than to fall for the sales patter.

Hi,
I agree that some of their claims are difficult to prove but what's the difference?

You're unlikely to find a company without a sales strategy nowadays, let alone an American one - capitalism at work.

From gigging experience their 801 p.a. Speakers are superb but when you go to your hifi dealer he talks you out of them for av
I have 4 JBL surrounds and a JBL centre and really feel the odd one out hereabouts however the sound is amazing xti series

Back in 1981 I bought some reasonably large Bose bookshelf speakers with 10" drivers and a sweet sounding tweeter. I ran them with a NAD 3140 amp which I thought was the mutts nuts!

Can't find an image of the Bose. But boy, could they go deep and loud!

They sure know how to squeeze a quart into a pint pot. But then charge 5 gallon prices for it. They can do amazing things with little speakers, but they are still little speakers. They may make the best sounding clock radio in the world but I'd never pay £700 for it because it's still just a clock radio :)

A set of Bose speakers with 10" drivers though, now you have me interested
