Bose Companion 3 Subwoofer Positioning

Standard Member

Just got a new TV and am using a Bose Companion 3 speaker system to improve the sound.

I have got the sub accoustimass box under the telly on a shelf - it seems a good place for it. It is on its side but after reading the manual Bose say that it should be upright.

I can't see any reason why it can't be on it's side, there are no ports or anything being blocked etc. Anybody know why it should be in an upright position??

Probably due to the cooling heatsink fins orientation on the rear.
Shouldn't be a massive issue though unless you intend to run it at high volume for prolonged periods in a hot environment.
Just make sure there's plenty of ventilation room for the heatsink to do it's job.

Cheers - Thanks for that. I couldn't see any reason why it should be a problem. There's plenty of vent space at the back so don't think that should be a problem. Couldn't see any reason for it not being on its side other than it wouldn't be resting on its rubber feet.
