I am considering buying small speakers (Tannoy R1) to use with a sub (Paradigm PS1000) instead of floortanders and would like some opinions as to what quality of sound should i expect to get. Will small speakers + sub be any good for muic/movies or should i get the floorstanders?

    Hi

Arguably a decent sub and bookshelf speakers will outperform a pair of floorstanders with no sub. But it does depend on the speakers used. All THX speakers are sub/sat systems.

The answer is to demo the different types and choose what you think sounds best. You´ll still need a sub even if you go for floorstanders as not many can plumb the depths that a subwoofer can.

    Cheers
