Question Bookshelf Speakers

Novice Member

I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction?

I've recently purchased an Audio Technica LP120 and I'm rather chuffed with it.

As it stands it's running alongside an 80's SU series Technics Amp and a pair of 90's Panasonic speakers. That's the lot.

I am looking for a good pair of bookshelf speakers to compliment what I already have with a mind to upgrade the amp at a later date. Space is at a premium at the moment.

I don't want to spend a fortune (less than £100) and I am leaning towards the secondhand market to get more bang for my buck.

The other option is to bite the bullet and add a Sonos Connect to my existing setup and integrate the TT but I'm not really looking to put any more money into that yet.

I am by no means an audiophile but i appreciate good sound.

Any suggestions, recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The Diamond 9.1 are indeed good speakers, and probably the best you can get for the low amount of money.

Here are two sources -

Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Speakers (Pair) - Superfi

Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Speakers (Cherry finish). New, in sealed box. | eBay

Both are NEW speakers, sealed in the Original Boxes.

Because of the Curved Sides, these are a bit deeper than most speakers, so if you are crunched for space, make sure they will fit.

If you cap is £100/pr, then you can't do much better, but if you can come up with a bit more money, there are some alternatives -

Tannoy Mercury 7.1 Speakers (Walnut only) - Superfi

Q Acoustics 3020 Speakers (Pair) - Superfi

The Q Acoustic 3020 are impressive, but they have workable but limited bass depth.

Mission LX-2 Speakers (Pair) - Superfi

Here is a Forum Review of the Mission LX-2 speaker -

Mission LX-2 Speaker Review

And here is a discussion of the review -

Mission LX-2 Speaker Review & Comments

Wharfedale Diamond 220 Speakers (Pair) - Superfi

The Wharfedale Diamond 220 is a newer equivalent to the Diamond 9.1.

Tannoy Mercury 7.2 Speakers - Superfi

The Tannoy Mercury are a matter of taste. Many like them especially if they can get them on sale. You would need to listen to see if the suit you.

I would expect this guy has been sorted by now, thread nearly a year old.

Nah. My missus can take two hours to decide on what top to wear! A year to pick speakers would be nothing to her.:)
