bookshelf speaker low hum after receiver connecting to subwoofer
I have a mini-hifi which is very good for stereo music. However, I discovered that the bookshelf speaker or headphone has a low hum after I connect pre-out to a subwoofer.
If I disconnect the subwoofer, the hum is gone.
What is wrong there? ground loop?

yes - possibly ground loop: subwoofer connected to mains ground and via shield of pre-out to hifi, and from hifi back to mains. You need your ground connections to be star connected to a single point, without extra connections. Then no current can flow in the signal grounds.

You may fix it by plugging in both to the same mains socket instead of different ones.
