There's loads of these knocking about, supposedly from PayPal, eBay, or Banks and Building Societies. Basically you have to be suspicious of any unexpected emails from financial institutions, and never, ever use links contained in emails to log into your account, or to update account information and passwords. No reputable financial institution will ask for secure information by email.

I work for a Bank and had a similar mail a couple of weeks ago supposedly from the Bank I work for. I did a bit of digging in work and there's no relation as to whether you bank with them or use the company - such as PayPal - they simple send an official looking mail to a big list of mail addresses and count on someone having an account and clicking on the link. Mine was very official looking as well - can understand people being fooled. According to the guy in work I spoke to they are investigating over 70 such scams at the moment. And thats just one Bank and the scams that have been reported.

Pays to be on your guard :)
