    Another one bites the dust.

    Never rated him until I saw him do a stand up gig. Very funny clever man. I liked his "clever" jokes.

    So for posterity, here's one of his best:

    "When I told them I wanted to be a comedian at school, they all laughed. Well, they're not laughing now."

    Shame he's gone.

    I agree he was someone special - it's worrying, will we have the same iconic people in the years to come?

    Im sure we will. There is plenty of good talent out there.

    Very sad news indeed. Not to be crude but i look forward to the tv shows to come... shame the greats have to pass away to get them.. ie. Bob Hope too.

    Yep shame I liked Bob Hope and Monkhouse.

    Best monkhouse joke I heard was:

    "I went 5 years without sex once, then I started school at 5"

    Bob Monkhouse was an early HC fan - used a projector with a multi standard Sony SLF1

    I met someone once who sold him a Sony SLHF950:clap: :smashin:

    Bob Monkhouse is on in his last recorded program tonight on Five at 21.00. It is the first in a series of programs about comedians talking about their comedy heroes.

    Sorry if you were hoping to see him as it showed very little of him it was clips of his heroes with other people commenting on them.

    I also have it on good authority he was a bit of a video games fan too.
    He bought a Vectrex when it came out and rented games from the local video store.

    Your right I remember it. Also from the Bob Monkhouse on Bob Monkhouse he was interested in most comics (as in the printed ones) he collected original artwork and in his study I noticed some memorabilia.

    He had a very good general knowledge I remember him on one show being asked questions each week and he was phenomenal. He also was very well up on films as well the silent ones in particular.

    Bob actually worked for many British comic publishers from the age of twelve and through his teens. Most famously D.C Thomson publishers of The Beano and The Dandy, he also created a character called The Tornado as detailed on the following page;
