    Hi All

Own a 2004 BMW 318i Sport (Saloon) Facelift..
    Car has done 57k.

A few days ago, whilst driving to work, the engine, abs, brake lights appeared on the dash and the radio switched off..Car was still running although when trying the windows, they were moving up/down very slowly..
I pulled into the petrol pump (had to fill up) and you guessed it, it wouldn't start (just kept clicking)..

I assumed it was the battery or alternator so waited for the rac..30 mins into waiting, tried again and the car fired up..Warning lights gone, stereo working again.

I had the battery changed (was the original from 2004) and alternator checked - guy said it was fine..

Today i experienced the same problem again albiet for about 5 secs (lights on dashboard although the climate control now shut off)..After 5 secs - no problem.

What could it be? I know i'll need to get a diagnostic check done but wondered if anyone had any ideas before i spent money on this..

    Thanks..

Could be a bad earth or contact on the battery. After 6 years though i'd put money on the battery first.

It does sound like a bad connection or battery problem to me too.

Thanks guys - just to be clear, i had the battery changed, so theres a new battery in now..Whilst changing the battery i had the alternator checked and that came back ok..

I'll check for dodgy connections however after the battery change a couple of days ago, i would have thought any bad connections would have been addressed (or not)...

It could be a bad earth strap, not familiar with the 318i but there are earth straps all over the engine, it could be one of these that has snapped or corroded.

Some BMW's need the battery codding when fitted as higher specs need more power & therefore the car needs to know what battery is fitted & there is more than 1 type of battery usually.
