:lease: BMW 5 series E39 radio business head

recently all the speakers in the car have gone, been told had i would most likey have to get a new head unit (400 quid) but not convinced as the dealer didn't instill a lot of confidence....anyway the speakers started making crackling and popping noise then one by one they stopped working, but have also been told that the speakers can't blow, so must be a connection problem..anyone with similar issues and or answers, don't wanna give BMW another 400 quid unless i really have to!!!!!

    cheers :)

have all the functions stopped working on the stereo? or just 'no sound'

you could have the headunit repaired (there are firms that specialise in the repair of such things)

or perhaps ebay? (http://***********/aholp) (no affiliation or anything, just s quick search)

I have exactly the same problem as tonyw, display and all computer functions OK but no sound from either tape or radio. I have tried eBay but getting the same part number is almost impossible. I have also enquired re repairs only to be told that that BMW will not release the chips.

If anyone knows where I can get a tape unit No 6512 837 7006 or a CD unit 6512 837 5236 please respond. I have been searching for these for the last 3 weeks and they are as rare as hens teeth!

If anyone knows the whereabouts of a repairer, drop me a line.

Finally, does anyone know if the CD units of a later model e39 are backwards compatable with display 6582 836 0737? I have seen a few of these on eBay but am wary of trying one in case I blow something else.

    Thanks
    :lease:

my LHS speakers do not work at all (2001 e39 facelift 530d). Tried various breakers and eBay, but most units on the latter are of the 'older' variety (round pins, not the flat ones on mine)...

if anyone knows of someone who could repair (pref SE England, but only found people in the US on Google - so far! - so UK wide is OK:) ) that would be appreciated!

    No, just the bog-standard Becker OEM "BMW Business" unit (p/n 65.12-6 903 873, or 65.12-6 935 007)
