I'm fairly new to the world of digital music, and have slowly been ripping my collection to a spare PC which will act as a wireless sound server to the whole house.

Im having problems ripping a cd (Life for Rent) with BMG Copy Control. Does any one know a way I can get this disk on my PC?

    Cheers

I'd also really like to know the answer to this as I've got a number of CD's which wont let me rip them to my PC, I've been trying with MS Media Player but would be willing to use anything as long as it let me rip to a compressed format with CDDB info.

    Cheers

    Willing to use anything, eh?

Try a Mac running OS X. I've never come across a copy-protected cd i haven't been able to rip yet, inluding the aforementioned life for rent.

Another small victory for the Mac user :) :) :)

    Cheers,

    Matt

Hold the control key down then you can rip it

I do not buy BMG anyway as I cannot play them in the DVD player

If you disable autoplay on the CD drive the copy control software on the so-called CD will not load. That usually lets your ripping program access the CD properly. Holding down CTRL when you insert the disc has much the same effect, 'cept it's hard to guess how long to hold the key down for.

However if the copy control CD has permanently loaded some software on your PC then you will have more difficulty.

Try downlaoding iTunes and use that. I could never get the 1st track from the Kings of Leon's first album using anything else but iTunes worked a treat.

Sounds like a faulty CD to me, perhaps you should take it back...
Does the cd have this label:-

If so, you could contact trading standards, as they're marketing it as a CD that adhears to the CD standard when it blatently doesn't.

    Otherwise try ripping with EAC.
Although I suspect the disabling of auto cd play is your best plan. There's an article from M$ on it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/155217

DBpoweramp will rip these too i think, anyone confirm?

Otherwise, there's programs that you can run that remove it silently in the background and allow you to rip with any app you want.

iTunes seems to work o.k. I always had problems with Kings of Leon except with iTunes as well.
