He has been summoned to Downing Street instead of being grilled by MPs. Looks like he will be sacked / resigned for a second time. His political career will be over....until Blair gets him a job in Brussels with Mandelson :)

No, I think he's had it. Mandlesson's sins were not as great as Blunketts, and he, while an embarrassment, didn't undermine the govt the way Blunkett has. If he goes, I doubt Blair will let him creep back in this time. Pres. Blair might allow one major gaff, but two? No chance.

The easy route and one that leaves him with a little dignity and a chance that his career will one day be resurected given the fact that he wasnt chopped.

Don't know why he didn't go earlier, he seemed to be an extremeist and a creepy old man, blind or not he doesn't get any sympathy from me.

He should lay off the birds for 10 minutes and do some work. Glad he's gone.

    Blunkett on plausible deniability:

    "I didn't see anything................"

    I thank you.

    And the PM's comment....

"I could discover no impropriety or wrongdoing." ,and "an honest misunderstanding",

However it did take 3 separate warnings before the newly jobless minister got the message about it being against the clearly stated rules.

Which makes it all the easier to bring him back into government at a later date, which is, no doubt, what will happen. How he got back after the last time is mystery enough.

Tony should say to him 'It is with regret that I accept your resignation David, but must admit we won't miss you turning up to work wearing that bright tangerine and violet coloured suit"

It would have to be a pretty good screen reader to cut through all the clutter ... but possible.

In my book one of the better politicians in the house and one that will be sorely missed . Its a shame he has to fall on his sword over such a trivial matter
