MVC are doing 2 DVDs for £15 so I went for Tomb Raider and Blues Brothers/Blues Brothers 2000. For some reason I thought BB would be a very ropey transfer being an old film, but In fact its great, both video and sound quality are top notch. The film is of cause as great as ever. If this isn't in your collection, why not !?! Go out and buy it!

Agreed, it is an excellent version of the Blues Brothers. It also seems to have some extra scenes (from the video and Laserdisc releases).
I can't remember them all but one is Elwood resigning from his job at a factory (it's actually the place that manufactures the glue can he uses at the end of the film).

I don't think it even mentions these extra scenes of the DVD cover so I was quite surprised when they appeared.

I think I'd rather get the blues brothers on its own rather than having the 2000 sequel attached, horrible film.
The video quality of BB is fantastic for a film of that age, I even class my THX tape copy as still very watchable which is probably why i haven't got it on DVD yet, i have DVDs that are considerably worse quality than that tape.

Ah, I think you're being a bit harsh on BB2000. Yeah, it is poor in comparison to the first, but it still has some stunningly good music in it. No film with Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett in it can be all bad. As a homage to American music, I can only think of the original BB and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? which do it better.

If you skip 90% of BB2000 and go straight to the battle of the band play off at the end, it's worth watching. The music is great!

Other than that, it is a truly awful re-hash of the first, which must have John Belushi turning in his grave.

I watched Blues Brothers 2000 all the way through and didn't turn it off. I have turned some films off before so that must mean that I didn't find it awful, merely poo :D

Would I watch it again though? I doubt it

My children love Blues Brothers, also one of my favourite films.

BB2000 is just a naff film with good music.

My daughter likes the film with Jake in it!

Agreed on that score, I own both on R1 (BB2000 is the DTS version, bought it on the strength of the 1st one. IMO Landis & Ackroyd must have had an off day when writing the script, however they must have called in a lot of favours to make the film.
Only the music stops the 2nd one from being truly awful :( :thumbsdow

The original on the other hand is a cult classic :smashin: It gets played now & then when there's nothing else I want to watch.

You like Ghost riders? Probably the worst song in the film, IM<HO. Certainly I would rate Respect, Call on me, John the Revelator, Been Downhearted Baby, Down in New Orleans and, last but far from least, Please please (after the credits) as far better songs.

To each their own, I guess.

I managed to watch 20 odd minutes of BB2000 before switching it off. Truly awful. Nothing gets my goat more than a pointless cash in, sequel.

The sequel was what everyone wanted even though they knew in their heart of hearts that it wouldn't be as good as the original.

How could it be when the star of the original film had died.
