Hi, i was just wanting to ask a few questions about the PS3 and its Blueray Drive.

Ive been considering buying a blueray drive for about 4 weeks now, as it looks that HD-DVD is pretty much on the way out. With most stand-alone drives coming in at #250 it makes more sense to pay another #50 and then have the option to play games.

Whats the playback quality like and another important thing is it region free ?

Id be buying alot of my movies online from the states so was wondering if it will play them on a UK PAL machine.

    Cheers in advance

    Hi,

The PS3 is one of the better options for Blu-ray as it can be updated as and when there are new playback features and profile changes. Most players can't, or not easily anyway.

The P-Quality is very good, and operation of the machine is easy, like you say.. you get a games machine too :)

The downside is that there are no connections for Audio other than the Audio via HDMI or the optical. If you want to use analogue 5.1, then you can't on a PS3. This in itself is a fairly minor point :)

It also does a rather good job of up scaling standard DVDs, should you want to use the machine as a DVD player too.

A UK PS3 or BR machine will be region coded to UK only for BR (region B).

Allot of BR's are region free, and there are a few websites out there that sell R-free BRs.

    Hope this helps.
