Just set up my Panasonic DMPBD60, audio is good but the visual is bad.
I have the player connected via Optical and Component, but it shows ghosting.
I have tried various discs but its still happening.

    Any ideas please.

    Hi. :)
I would check your TV's settings, make sure all enhancement featues (NR etc) are OFF.

It depends what you mean by ghosting.

If it's static "echoes" of white lines to the right or left of objects, then this will be your Component video cables. You need better (and preferably shorter) ones.

Or if you mean motion after-images, make sure all the noise reduction controls on the TV (and the player) are off.

Have not made any changes to the TV settings but did make some changes to the DVD player settings, switching off the HDMI and setting the Component to 1080i, the ghosting has gone but the picture quality is crap, i just wondered if its because of the DVD ( Knights Tail) is an old version....although most of my DVD seem to performing the same with bad picture quality...

I am using very good quality cables, Ghosting appear around images like a shadow effect, mainly left, has gone since making changes to player settings throught the setup on the remote.
Seems wierd when last using my Pioneer dv696 via component i had no problems with picture quality on my older DVDs....

Some DVD's can look a bit rough i'm afraid especially when you get used to Blu-ray.

    Hi Avi.
After making the change in setup settings on the Blu-ray/DVD player, I went off to rent a new DVD, Benjiman Button, played it and picture looks great.
My only concern is that playing some of my older DVDs such as knights tale, The Shadow etc, the quality is crap, very pixalated for want of a better word,..

Hard to say what the cause may be without seeing the issue first hand. Out of interest what display are you using ?

    Opps sorry.
    Sony Bravia KDF-E50A12U.LCD

after much playing about with, it seems its the R1 discs that are the main problem with the ghosting, there is a small humming noise from the player, its almost as if its conflickting with something, such as another input........

Sorry i should have mentioned that the problem was fixed via my TV and not the player, its all about upgrading the firmware on the TV.
You can view the fix from dj uk , HERE just scroll down the page till it appears, its the 9th entry down.............
