Blu Ray m2ts ripping questions

I've run into a couple problems ripping Blu Rays to m2ts to stream to my PS3/Xbox 360. Space is no issue, just want perfect quality rips (minus the HD soundtracks). So I've started with Transformers, used BDinfo to find the right playlist on the disc, used TSMuxer to pull out the movie into a single m2ts file. The resulting file has a couple problems:

The strangest one is that while it plays back fine in WMP 12, playback in Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 is choppy/juttery in any panning scenes. This is super noticeable in the credits too. Almost looks like it's being transcoded or something.

Another annoying problem is that I can't fast forward or rewind the file, although I can navigate the timeline via the slider at the bottom of both programs. Besides that, I can't get chapter support or subtitle support, despite the fact that custom chapters are enabled in tsmuxer with the playlist I selected. As far as subtitles, 3 streams are "Presentation Graphic Streams" in english, so using trial and error I ripped 3 videos using one of them in each video. None of them appear to have subtitle support in either WMP 12 or PowerDVD. Any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated!

*Update:
While working on this, I've moved on to Transformers 2, which uses DTS HD instead of Dolby TrueHD. Even though I've checked the box to downmix to regular DTS, it appears that the audio won't play in WMP 12 even though it plays in PowerDVD. So right now my options are to play in PowerDVD with audio, but choppy video, or play in WMP with no DTS support. Any way to convert DTS to Dolby?

I think you're in the wrong subforum, however...

Not sure about DTS to Dolby. However I would ask: "Have you tried Clown BD at all?"

This is a great (and free!) GUI user interface that uses TSMuxer and EAC3to, and is very user friendly.

You can select to rip to m2ts (as well as BD ISO) and select different audio (Unchanged, LPCM, etc) whilst repacking.

Thanks for the help! Since making this post I've discovered Clown BD and ripped most of my collection. Now my problem has become how to play VC-1 encoded .m2ts files in WMP, or how to convert them to a different container that will play in WMP...which is shaping up to be a much bigger problem : /

Why are you using such a limited media player like WMP ?

Use MPC-HC, Potplayer or XBMC to play the files.

An alternate ripping method is to use MakeMKV you can retain the original video and audio, most Blu-rays have a normal AC3/DTS track.

Thanks for the links. Ok so I gave Media Player Classic a try, after install it told me I needed to update DirectX Runtime. Before I do this, I give it a try playing one of my Blu Ray rips. The video stutters. Not immediately noticable, but super annoying in panning scenes and motion. So I go back and update the DirectX Runtime, and now playback is stuttering in MPC AND WMP! Not good. I should note I gave Cyberlink PowerDVD a try and decided not to buy (for the time being) because my Blu Ray rips were also playing back with the same stutter!

That being said, I know WMP is a pretty bare bones media player relative to other players. No real NEED to keep it, just convenience, as I'm just getting started with all this.

Sounds like a problem with your display driver and DXVA. Make sure your using an up to date driver for your GPU, MPC-HC would never normally ask to update Direct-X it usually just works. There's a guide here for tweaking MPC-HC for optimal playback of HD material.

Potplayer and XBMC are also both good alternatives.

Well, despite the fact that Windows says my video card drivers are up to date, a check over at nVidias website shows an update. So I've updated the driver and the stutter has improved quite a bit. I've narrowed the less than amazing playback down to my laptop's hardware. I'm running a core 2 duo 2 Ghz with a nVidia g 105m card, not to mention running dual monitors. : / For now I'll just shut off the other monitor and maybe do away with Aero until I can get my hands on some new hardware!

Although I'm now able to play the VC-1s on my PC, I'm still looking for a way to stream them to my PS3. I've heard that VC-1s can be put in the WMV container and streamed to PS3, but that audio quality has to be downgraded. I already downgrade my BDs from TrueHD/DTS HD to regular AC3 anyway, so would this work? And if so, is there a program out there that allows me to do this easily? Thanks for the help guys!

The only way to do that would be to mux the VC-1 into a WMV container with WMA audio, not an easy task WMV tools are very unpopular and rare, there are some command lines tools over on Doom9 but someone may have crafted something out there otherwise it means using some like Microsofts Expression Encoder. A better path I think would be to encode the video into x264/M4V with an AC3 5.1 audio track.

Download Handbrake, better off using nightly build.
* Click source and point it at the video
* Set MP4 as container (it will output M4V)
* Select High Profile preset
* On video tab set it to RF18
* On audio tab delete first AAC audio track so AC3 passthru becomes track 1
* Click Start to encode

This will give you a high quality encode of the movie with AC3 5.1 audio that should play fine on the PS3.

Or spend £63 on a more capable hardware media player that can play file as is.

I've been using VLC Player which I've been mostly happy with. Since I'm new to the game, however, I'm not positive that the community in toto loves it, but that was my impression. Also, Windows will often show drivers are up to date while at manufacturers' site newer ones are available. I'm not sure why this is other than I assume that MS does compatibility testing perhaps?
