i saw a copy of night at the museum for sale for £33 in a well known high street store:eek:

the also had ice age 2 for £30:thumbsdow

any one else seen any stupid prices?

yeah HMV, £30 is far too much for a film.

the thing that will kill off BD is the price of the software, not cheaper hddvd players

HMV have always had high prices for early software formats. I remember paying £24.95 for Jumanji when DVDs were first introduced and they had to order it, I think there were only around 6 titles available.

Only 4 titles were originally available... A Few Good Men, Jumanji, Riverdance and I can't remember the 4th. Actually, you could consider it 5 titles if you counted Queens Greatest Hits DVD that came free with the Panasonic A1.

the cheapest i've seen is £13 at play, highest will be £45 (o.k, it was the MI Box set...)

didn't you get Walace and Gromit as well?

You want cheap Blu-Ray discs?

You want to walk into a UK retailer and pick up XXX for £12.99 or Kung Fu Hustle for £12.99?

You gonna thank me or what when I tell you?

Shhhhh! Don't tell everyone but try.....

Blockbuster Video ( They rent and sell at the cheapest prices you'll find in a shop in the UK)

Saw The Transporter for £29 in HMV Kettering - walked round the corner and it was £19 in Gamestation.
Guess where I got it from? :)

Kwozzii

I am trying so hard to spend my £10 Virgin voucher yet I cannot seem to find anything reasonable in HD!

In the two Asda's near me blu-rays are £13:97 and hd dvd are £15:97.

Regards

John.

no hi def in my asda...bah

Weird, I must've missed the first batch then because when I started buying dvd's and using the old Creative Labs DVD drive in the pc, the first discs I bought were one of the last 2 Batman films and Mars Attacks ........

As to the actual topic, yep high street prices for HD and BD stink and only Blockbuster seem to have a "reasonable" selection and have probably the lowest prices out there, although for most of the films out, these are still way too high for films you could get on SD for £3 they are charging £18 or even £25.

Swordfish is a case in point.

Many people did noy buy into DVD until 98/99, however, I purchased the Panasonic A1 back in summer 97. I would have had to waited 6 months or so for more titles to become available, I remember keep walking into Virgin & HMV asking if they had had any DVD's in yet and being looked at with that blank expresion. This is why I got Tandy (yes Tandy) in Peterborough to chip my player. That was when I discovered region 1 titles.

I still have that Panasonic machine somewhere. Funny because they revised that model (A1 B or something) just like they have done with there first gen BD player (DMP-BD10A).

I quite like the challenge of the hunt, it's like the good old days. It got a bit boring being able to walk into any high street shop and buy multiple dvd's for a fiver. I paid over the odds once because I was impatient and I had a player sat at home with nothing to watch on it (apart from King Kong that came with it). Since then I don't think I've paid more than £14 for a new disc which isn't too bad...

Yep, just received Wicker Man today on Blu Ray, cost just over a tenner from Movietyme after a discount voucher. High Street = pants down time and bend over please customer

On the highstreet I have been able to get both HD-DVDs and Blu-ray's for £10!! Albeit few and far between and the same shop have other hidef discs for £24 and £30 but the average seems to be around £18

This is two different stores of the same retailer (only because they are the only ones closest too me with hidef stock)

I thin around £18 is a fair price for a known good film (whatever your preference) seeing as movie tickets are around £8 or so now where I live if I know I am going to watch it over two or three times then I will pay that price willingly (especally for a decent transfer and better sound quality)

Anything more than £20 and it will never be a casual buy

HMV was trying to sell Casino Royale for £25 which I thought was a rip off, until I walked into Virgin Megastores and saw them selling even average blu-rays for £30 :O

HMV Cribbs Causeway Bristol wanted £33 for Xmen 3:eek: I walked 400 yards down the road to Toys'R'Us and picked it up for £20.

I had just bought a Samsung BDP1000 for £349 from John Lewis and was desperate for something to watch tonight. I will be ordering all my future BDs (and HD DVDs) online from the states in future!

Looks like BlockBusters may well be a good place to keep an eye on as their prices seem reasonable (£13-15) with the occasional one being £20 (Speed)

Unfortunately the one near me only has about 10-15 titles so far

Was'nt Jodie Foster's 'Contact' one of the first as well?....
