    Sorry if I'm being a bit stupid here but I'm looking for some more knowledgable type to comment on this.

    I have been waiting for the new 500 series to do a comparison between it and the 50 series before buying. The rational being that I may not need HD for broadcast pictures right now but at least I can buy a blu ray in about a year and get the benefit from that and get the broadcast pictures whenever.

    Now, heres the but, I have just checked the spec for the 500 series at Panny's web site and there is no mention of HDMI / DVI inputs on the 500 series, so how am I going to hook up a blu ray and get the full benefit of it and the HD res of the 500 series without them?

    Sorry guys, just read some more and the 500 series does have HDMI.

    Quote from Panny's web site "With the easy to use HDMI connection, HD pictures can be displayed", but I'm still puzzled through which connection.

    To be able to use the HD ready logo, the set has to accept 720p and 1080i signals (@50 and 60Hz) via analogue component and HDCP-encrypted digital HDMI/DVI. Hope this helps.

    Hi Andy,

    I'm sure you have answered your own question, unless I misunderstood you. The PV500 series can accept HD via a dedicated HDCP compliant HDMI port on the back of the TV set. If you click on the image below for a larger picture you will see the HDMI port lurking just above the two SCART inputs labelled AV2 & AV4.

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Steve_P, yes pretty much answered the question but was confused 'cos the pannt web site specs don't mention an HDCP compliant input terminal at all.

    All it really says is

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    SD Memory Card Slot - Yes

    PCMCIA Card Slot - Yes

    Composite Video Input - AV3: RCA phono type x 1 (front)

    S-Video Input - AV3: S terminal x 1 (front)

    Audio Input (for Video) - AV3: RCA phono type connectors (L, R) (1 set, front)

    PC Input - Mini D-sub 15-pin x 1 (rear)

    Audio Input (for PC) - RCA phono type connectors (L, R) (1 set, rear)

    Component Video Input - RCA phono type x 3 [Y , PB (CB), PR (CR)] (rear)

    Audio Input (for Component Video) - RCA phono type connectors (L, R) (1 set, rear)

    21-pin Input/Output - AV1: AV In, TV out, RGB In (rear), AV2: AV In/Out, S-Video In, Q-Link (rear), AV4: AV In/Out, S-Video/RGB In, Q-Link (rear)

    Audio output - RCA phono type connectors (L, R) (1 set, rear)
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Just didn't see any hdcp among that lot. I can rest easy now and wait for it to appear.

    Unfortunately the UK Panny website is written by marketing monkeys and not by AV enthusiasts therefore the information posted sometimes loses accuracy when you sift through the finer details.
