    disgraceful, so channels 3,4 and 5 have vanished from free to air now,and to get your new upgraded free to air card you have to pay £23!!!,absolutely outrageous.
    anyone know a way of hacking round this,we can't give up more money to these swines.

    Also it is not illegal to watch ITV for free in the UK

    Just for clarification, not that you are really interested:)

    ITV1, CH4 and Five have never been FTA they are FTV and require a smartcard which for the first 4 years was paid for out of the license fee by the BBC with a contribution by Ch4 and Five.

    When the BBC refused to spend our money to ensure our viewing of it's commercial rivals viewing on Dsat no one was willing to meet the costs invlolved.
    The government and regulators brokered a deal which provides new FTV cards but since all parties involved have to make profits the cards now cost a lot more than they did.
    Point of interest, order a FTV card using yout credit card and it's billed to CH4:)

    At the end of the day the terestrial channels on digital satellite can choose to broadcast FTA or supply FTV cards free of charge, they chose not too.
    I honestly can not see how the UK TV owning public have to pay a license fee and they pay again for dsat viewing. The license fee should cover it all or be only applicable to people who watch the BBC.
