Went into Blockbuster yesterday and noticed that they had posters up advertising that they would buy your second hand disks.

I'm quite interested in this, as I've got load that I don't watch anymore and I can't appear to get rid of them in the trading section.

Does anyone know if they are planning to start selling second had disks along with their ex-rental stuff ?

I've picked up loads of bargains in blockbusters recently - along with their ex-rental they've had a load of new stuff priced from as little as £2.98. Looks like it'll be worth keeping an eye them in the future for second hand bargains.

I'll take some disks in tomorrow for a valuation and see what sort of prices they are offering.

I brought in a load of VHS tapes last week. They offered me on average . 50p per tape if I took credit, half that if I wanted the cash! Don't expect too much from them.

Better than giving them away I suppose.

That's about what you can get for them at a car boot sale. Perhaps they'll do better deals on DVD. I'll report back after I've taken mine in.

I notice from your ID that you are in Cardiff, if your trying to sell your disks have you tried the s/h cd, dvd etc... store on the corner of Albany Rd, i've sold dvd's to them in the past and they paid far more than i was expecting.

No, haven't to sell them anywhere before.

I've been in one second hand place before - if you walk down Albany Road and then turn left into City Road there is a shop a couple of doors down. It sells speakers and various equipment as well as DVDs. Is that the place you mean ?

No thats not the one, if you go down Albany, then instead of turning left down city road, turn right (mackintosh place/road?), and its just around the corner facing the scream/george.

I think I know the one you mean. I had no idea they bought / sold second hand stuff. Looks like a trip down there is well in order.

    Cheers

So are they planning to have a section of second hand DVD stuff with a separate pricing structure to their ex-rental disks ?

I have been buying second hand DVDs's from them for a couple of weeks.

Any traded DVD's are for sale at buy one and get one free. The prices per DVD are £2.99, £5.99 and £7.99. They also have their normal ex rental DVD's at £9.99+ and not BOGOF.

I managed to get Wargames and Crimson Tide SE for a total of £2.99. I also got VHS copies of Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers at £2.99 for a relative.

that's not bad. i'll have to see if my local BB has any deals like this. I don't trust their ex-rentals though, they're normally scratched to hell and they won't refund you.

Thinking of selling half of my dvd collection (think I have around 450 in total), anyone know how much they go for at good car boot sales? Just a thought before I plough into the depths of ebay...

you won't get a lot at car boot sales, everyone tries their best to rip you off cos they know you don't want to lug all the stuff home again. You might get a good deal selling the whole lot in one go on e-bay, but i wouldn't mind knowing what you have myself, i'm always on the look out for a good bargain. i've got 540 dvd's at the moment, but always have room for more.

I don't have that problem. When I get them, they come with a 12 month guarantee. Also, the BOGOF ones are DVD's bought by the public and are not ex- rentals.

I always look at the DVD before I buy them.

Have to agree there - all the ex-rentals I've bought have been top condition and they always scan my membership card to record the sale as they say there is a twleve month guarantee. Mind you, I'm not sure if they would give me a refund if I brought a disk back after 11 months all scratched to hell.

I popped in today and it looks like the 2 for 1 deal on the used disks has been replaced by a buy 2 and get 1 free offer - the same as they have on the ex -retanls.

Have to agree with the comments about the car boot sale - people offer you pennies for stuff and expect you to practically give it away for nothing.

I've sold disks on ebay and sometimes I've got more that it would have cost to buy them new, but if your going to sell loads it can be hastle keeping track off all the auctions and your bound to get a few time wasters who won't bother sending you payment.

There are alsorts of deals onm at the moment. The BOGOF deal IS on ex-rental and traded stock. If anyone is planning to trade VHS you will get 30p and 60p trade (thats blanket across the board). I think DVD is between 50p and £1.50 depending on what it is - newer stuff is worth more but you could have guessed that. :)

the best thing about video at the moment is that it hardly rents so often times we sell "Ex rental" VHS that has never been played, still wrapped! Weird.

well i'd admit that i've only bought 2, but both were annoying for different reasons. I got Carrie special edition but it paused and skipped continuously, and i could only replace it, not get a refund, and they had no other copies, so in exchange i got The Negotiator, which had a really sticky box, so now it's always attached to whatever DVD i have next to it on the shelf so i have to make sure its never next to a cardboard case!

Sounds like someone mistook the negotiator for a porno, and had the box a bit too close to themselves at the climax.

my local MVC has also started trading secondhand stuff - DVDs, games and CDs. I took the LXG 2 disc set in and they gave me £3.60 for it. They were welcome to it... I bought a second hand copy of the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves SE for £4.40 (£8 less the £3.60) and it's in perfect nick.

My local BB has been selling ex-rental & s/h dvd's for 3 months or more now, done a bit of buying & selling there, they must have a central computer with set prices on them as they scan them all & get a receipt list of the dvd's & their worth cash & credit, if you dont like the price you dont have to sell. Some surprisingly good prices,....some surprisingly poor.
