    Blockbuster are flogging off their ex-rentals (now labelled "pre-owned") @ 5 for £25. Also, 3 for £20 & 2 for £15 I think it was. I just bought...

    1. Love Actually
    2. Once Upon A Time in Mexico
    3. Paycheck
    4. Finding Nemo
    5. Bad Boys II

    Not bad for £25 :smashin:

Well, all the ex-rentals have been rebadged as pre-owned also...but even if they're 2nd hand...gimme a twice watched 2nd hand disc over an ex-rental with 200 viewings anyway!

Pre-Owned, Ex-Rental... who cares at these prices?! Just make sure you go for the ones that include all the extras - as the sell-thru version would have on it!! :D

    I got...

    Runaway Jury
    Big Fish
    S.W.A.T.
    Paycheck
    Thirteen

I think the point is ex-rentals 200 different people with

"its not my disc who cares"

I seen the way people that should know better treat discs!

Hence 2nd hand "I going to sell it so keep it in good condition", is better than 200 X "not my disc, who cares"

Yeah I was told 12 months guarantee too. Also my Matrix reloaded was an 'ex rental' version but was still sealed!

They ARE ex-rentals. Think about it, Blockbuster - rental store!
A lot of the titles are 'rental versions' and the 'Pre-Owned' thing will just be a branding exercise for people to initially think they aren't ex-rental. The are pre-owned from the point of view that many people have "owned" it for a short time as a rental!!

12 month guarantee just proves how much confidence there is in the quality of these titles.

At the end of the day it's your choice. Pay £5 per title (as it works out) or pay a lot more for a brand new copy. Fortunately I have more sense than money (or should that be unfortunately?!) so I opted for the bargain buy!!

I've bought loads of ex rentals from Blockbuster and never had a single problem. There's always bargains to be had too, and not just with this offer. They often have the £7.99 ex rentals on buy 1 get 1 free.

The only downside can be the boxes which are sometimes a bit damaged and the covers generally have "For rental viewing only" on them. But for £5 you can't complain!

I don't know if this is nationwide but our local BB stores offer customers the chance to bring their unwanted owned DVD'S in for exchange, cash or rental of other titles.

I know for a fact that some of these pre owned titles are put out for such offers as stated by the thread starter.

the lovely chick who served me, while buying Last Samurai (2disc), Big Fish, Cold Mountain (2disc), S.W.A.T. and Thirteen, said that on Monday the excess stock from the current New Releases will be getting moved over to the ex-rental bargains section. That should include titles such as:

    Lost in Translation
    Dogville
    Monster
    Mystic River
and another title that will allow me to spend another hard earned £25 :D

i didnt think it was that bad, but it's about illusion of value. Getting SWAT is better than getting "blood thirsty" or "pet semetary 2" or some other b-movie, as it would cost around £15 to buy SWAT new.

This is a fantastic deal really.

    LOTR ROTK
    Stuck on you
Matrix revolutions (had to get the set)
    The Animatrix
    Open Range

    12 months warranty.

And you can take em back and they'll give you money for 'em. I asked the girl in the Halifax branch what I'd get taking them back but she wasn't sure as it depends on how old the film is. But I wouldn't be surprised if this worked out cheaper than renting on some films!!!

Anybody actually traded any films back to Blockbuster?

    CL

I started this thread a while back when I first noticed that BB were buying and selling second hand disks and flogging them with the ex-rentals.

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142184

I haven't bothered selling any myself as one poster said that you get hardly anything for them - somewhere around the 50p - £1 mark.

    Absolute steal :)

    Helped myself to :

    Finding Nemo (2 disc)
    Big Fish
    Cabin Fever
    Runaway Jury
    Paycheck

and there were several more that I was seriously tempted by as well, but I think £25 was enough was one visit !
All in mint condition as well - you never know, offers like this might disuade people from buying pirate copies......

btw, was anyone else as severely disappointed by Big Fish as I was?? It was like Tim Burton on amphetamines... WAYYY too much BS going on just for the sake of being strange. Glad it was only 5 bucks

Big Fish was fantastic. Why should any director just churn out the same as before. Tim Burton is one of the few true artists in film. Though Planet of the Apes was absolutely shi*e

as a blockie employee i can tell you all that the dvds are a mixture of ex rental and 2nd hand traded. just to give you an indication of the value you will get back, my copy of 24 season 3 (yes its only a week old) would get me 8.99 cash or £15 traded. Single disc films that are over a couple of months old will get you about £1.

i never buy ex rentals - i've seen how they are treated.

Whenever I buy an ex-rental I always open the box and inspect the disk at the counter - if it was scratched I would ask for another one - but they've always been perfect. I sort of presumed that they didn't bother re-selling the scratched ones and just threw them away - or do they try and sell those also Garyd ?
