    Hi

I've just bought a Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder and was wondering what difference there was between blank DVD disks in terms of quality.

Will the cheap '25 for £9.99' ones be ok, or should I go for the more expensive branded (e.g. TDK, Maxell) makes?

What do you get for the extra money?

    Thanks for any advice.

The cost is related to the dye used.

    Have a look at http://www.svp.co.uk/

25 for £10 isn't that cheap ;) Have a look at Taiyo Yuden for a top brand.

    Discs that record properly.

Try looking here and memorise some media codes before buying from the SVP site.

Very Good Advice above.I have the Panny eh95 HDD Recorder, ive used about 50 TDK 4 speed or 8 speed Top Quality and only 1 coaster,Sony`s work fine and the Panasonic own brand are also very good,on the cheap disc front the bulkpaq orange 25 spindle produced no coasters either,My panny didnt like Memorex or those white printable spindle pack discs.
I quite fancy trying Fuji they are currently on special offer at 29p here.

I'm sure the more expensive media is better and perhaps only time will tell when you try to watch an archived programme in a couple of years time and find it won't play but I've been using cheap Datawrite Red v3 4x and 8x DVD-R and have had no problems with over 200 discs. At £13.00 for 100 discs they are very good value and play in all machines I've tried.

I think a degree experimentation is often sensible to see what works and what doesn't. But I guess only time will tell if the more expensive DVD's outlast the cheaper ones.
