      Hi all,

Does anyone have any information on a re-release of this classic? I did read a couple of years ago that Ridley Scott was going to put some serious time into a new DVD, but I presume he's been busy with other projects.

      Nick.

THere is a thread listed on these very forums under blade runner international cut. on or around page two there is a link to a very interesting article regarding the legal problems that blade runner has encountered for a special release. All I can say is dont count on anything happening anytime soon

Finally got to the link. Sounds complicated. Will see what happens. It's a real shame to let personal issues get in the way of improving a classic film for the fans, whichever version that might be.

Apparently, Ridley's already completed the 3 disc SE and polished it off. It's waiting to go (which needs the old Gimmer with the rights to give them up or pass away...in which case they revert to the studio who will then release the film ASAP).

Unfortunately, its warner bro, which means we're highly unlikely to get DTS, and may also get it in a cheapo cardboardy clipcase design...mmmmmmm nice

IMO whoever's stopping this re-release is going to miss out on any profit this new set is going to make & will stop it at almost any cost until they get a cut.
Is there any campaign on the web to petition a re-release, as this would be one of the few releases I would definatley have on pre-order.

david, my man, its my standard response to all questions about BR. its one of the greatest films ever made and it greaves me that i dont own it. so just when i've forgot that i dont own it, somebody pops up with the "anybody know its being released" question.

i simply therefore ask that all questions about it be barred from the forum so as to save me (and deckard) from this "grief"

its not a slight at anyone - honest. do a search i've said it before and i'm sure that i'll have to say it again.

      Gary:

I'm supprised that you don't own the movie, because you can still get an 2nd hand copy of the "Directors Cut" on DVD, and i believe you can get a copy on Laserdisk too if you have a player.

So no excuses for not having a copy, well unless your after the 1982 version.

      Cheers

I'll explain why i dont own it - I'm after a decent version the current DVD is one of the worst I've ever seen. the SQ and the PQ are so very very very bad, it looks like someone dumped the VHS onto DVD. i bought to many bad DVD transfers on shockingly bad disks in the past and refused to buy this one just line warners pockets. Although i've never undrstood why they could release it, then have legal issues when they try to release a decent version?

as for being helpful, i try my best ;)

i haven't watched vhs for six years now, and i stopped buying really bad dvd's. i know that i cut off my nose to spite my face with it, but after you've just watched something like Alien with its fantastic print its very hard to get the euthusiasm for watching one of the greatest film ever to be made by hollywood on a sub-standard dvd.

      1) It's not one of the greatest films ever made (even by Hollywood): you're overreacting a tad. It might be a firm favourite, but it's endlessly derivative.
      2) The R2 dvd is adequate, not shockingly bad. It ain't great, but it's placeholder-quality until something better comes along.
      3) Buy. A. Laserdisc. Player. If. You're. Such. An. Obsessive. You can then own both the director's and original versions (with extras) and even get a few extra bits of violence. Heck, you can even buy the leg of boot dvds of these...

Star trek 2 the wrath of khan of course!!!!!!!!!!! :D :smashin:

Seriously though I like blade runner alot but again would not say its the greatest film ever made. It is of course all down to personal preference. Just a side note though ,wasnt CITYSEN CAIN (excuse the spelling  ) voted the greatest film ever made by a panell of so called experts?

I own the blade runner dvd. It is of a slightly better quality than the video tape. It will have to do untill a decent version comes out. As for not wanting to line warners pockets I am sure you can pick up the dvd now for less than a tenner. Surely an incentive to see your greatest film ever made ;)

What about the final speach on top of the roof top - I think that's quite a profound moment, even, dare I say it, rivalling the Spock death scene.

And didn't GaryD say ONE of the greatest films ever made, not THE greatest film.

The current DVD of Blade Runner is miles better than any VHS copy and is actually better than the Laserdisc editions if this old magazine review i have just read is to be believed, sure i would love to own a new 3 disc version but until that old geezer from Del Monte says yes then i guess it'll have to do.

Says who? I think it is. Definitely. Full stop.

It is one of the most well crafted films you could ever hope to see. It is still one of the very few "great" science fiction movies, and it has levels of sophistication, subtley and symbolism that most movie makers can't even concieve...

If Blade Runner isn't one of the greatest movies ever then I don't know what is! :lesson:
