    Just saw this on play.com

Is this the new version we've been waiting for?
It has 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen but the audio is Dolby Digital 2.0 not 5.1 or dts.

Doesn't matter whether if it's anamorphic or not- the main problem is the awful picture quality of the standard release.

It looks like when setting contrast/brightness level dead low. They really need to remaster & clean the original film up.

And I would prefer a good sounding Pro-Logic mix rather than a messed up 5.1 mix. Ie Jaws.

The framing is also terrable, there's huge great "pillar borders" at the sides of the picture.

I'm afraid not - this is just the standard version in a big box with a poster and some postcards. It was released some time ago now.
I haven't heard any recent news on the new version... Good old Warner Bros!

according to Ridley Scott (who was on 5 Live on friday) its due out next year (but we've heard that before). he rekons its going to be a triple disk set.

Mark Kermode (5 lives reviewer) backed this up saying that he has done a documentary for the disk.

So we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the replies. I have the Directors Cut DVD and it is a bl**dy awful transfer. 3 disc edition sounds promising if they do a decent restoration job.

according to that Ridley Scott radio interview the 3-disc set is on a back burner and may not be out for sometime (no change there then). I didn't hear next year mentioned.

James45, i'm sure i heard next year, but that may have been wishful thinking on my part. If truth be known its one of the cases of "i'll believe it when i see it".

BR is one of the films that i'm really waiting for as its one of the big holes in my collection. cant bring myself to buy the current edition as its really really bad.

It's a shame a lot of his docs for other films don't make it as extras on DVD. He's the best, no doubt about that.

Instead we have to put with those cringing 'look back with fondness/a**e licking' featurettes

    Your're right there Kevo
The docu for T1 with Arnie and James Cemeron is equally cringe-worthy.

How many of us flick through the extras discs more than once or twice (eg. on a very wet Sunday) when there's bugger all to do?

Even the LOTR extrended edition which is probably one of the best extras collections will probably grace my DVD player no more than 3-4 times

I'd be more than happy with a superbit version of BR and forget about the extras.

Ahh well, at least there's Aliens to look forward to...

I'd rather burn it - at least then i'd have decent image quality and good sound as i watch it burn.
