Fantastic review, only tempered by the release on Monday by Amazon, watching it tonight on a Saturday would have been ideal.

Great review. Shame I am going to have to wait a bit longer as HMV didn’t come up with the goods.

It might be best to note it's a very slow (and long) movie...

After a recent diet of Marvel and Michael Bay movies this really stood out to me.
Don't get me wrong I loved the film visually but as I was watching late on I did check the time remaining a few times.

And Casimir as you noted in your Kingsman review that Colin Firth didn't appear until nearly an hour in (sic) perhaps the same for Harrison Ford who first appeared at around the
      1hr 45 minute mark

That score for the "movie" is going to attract some opposing views I think. Mate at work thought it was the most boring film he has ever seen. He's not a die hard Blade Runner fan, but those too have also sad similar.

I, er, hmmmm, ooooh, hum, cough, have not seen the 1st one yet! This is despite having the 5 disc Workprint Blu Ray edition AND the 4k UHD Final Cut.......What the £$%^ is wrong with me??!

Blade Runner 2049 is coming with the Mondo UHD and 3D edition ordered. Again, I think I need to seek help.

But I'm going to set aside one evening with my Atmos and enjoy the heck out of these. I apologise to you all for this heinous crime and also for those that which they could be in the same position. That fact I'll be seeing both like this for the 1st time is an honour that wont be wasted on me.

10 for the PQ. This would of been a 100 if it was presented in Dolby Vision!. Maybe a "future" super duper ultra replicant edition might come out in that format ?

Anyway thanks Cas for the review, a must own IMO

The original Blade Runner i am not a fan and do-not understand the cult status. But my this sequel is stunning my favourite SC-FI of all-time. Watching again tonight for the fourth time, a tip for those watching for the first time DO NOT watch in 3D it's not very good and will ruin the experience.

I've ordered the special edition with the glasses also.
May hit both films one after the other.

I Iike, not love the original. Due to heavy work travel I missed this in the cinema. I thought I'd be 50/50 about this given my feelings about the original, but after picking up the uhd while in the states a few weeks back I got to watch this early and have to say I loved it. Audio and video were superb. A real treat. The movie itself was so well paced and the world dv created exceeds Ridley's for me.

Not my favourite movie of the last ten years as was said earlier but definitely one I am already looking forward to a repeat viewing of, for the av treat as much as anything

I see several instances of posterisation on the UK disc (numerous shots of the sky during the opening chapter, in the ceiling lights when Luv and K are examining the archival recording, in fact it pulsates in those shots. Then in chapter 9 when K is talking to Dr Stelline in the light behind Gosling's head).

I am perfectly willing to accept it could be my E6, as I find its handling of HDR to be quirky from time to time, though knowing Deakins I am not sure the HDR here would actually be hitting peaks beyond even the E6's limitations resulting in it being a shoddy tone mapping anomaly. Thought it worth mentioning nevertheless. Same anomalies regardless of whether my Oppo 203 is outputting 10bit, 12bit, 422 or 444. I'd be happy to know it isn't present on better displays.

Interesting. I shall continue to troubleshoot (though again, I have often resigned myself to the belief my E6's panel is a bit... odd from time to time).

Oh one small thing. I was surprised, but pleased, to see the original subtitles retained. Usually Sony will dump them for player generated ones.

I too noticed instances of posterization with my E6 + Oppo combination. The first occasion in the sky at about 4:52. I doubt very much that your E6 is the culprit though as it should perform at least as well as rebel_scum's B6.:smashin:

Different CPU in the B6 though, so perhaps there could be a difference between the models.

Interesting. I can see something at 4:52, as per Will's example. It's above the tree, as the scout passes overhead. The other examples, I don't see anything.

I know some folk had posterization in the fog, in chapter 1. I've no such issue, as you can see here:

Geoff has the US and UK discs, I wonder if they're the same in this regard?

Beautifully shot and decent sci fi movie but on reflection not the masterpiece people think it is.
Jared Leto does his usual job of stinking up every film he is in , why he gets cast is a mystery to me.

Otherwise interesting and thought provoking but not a patch on the original
