Blade and matrix

I am a big Fan of the Matrix. However I was amazed last night when i sat down to watch Blade (1) how similar the 2 films are.

Style, photography, bits of script, running round walls.

Men in long black coats.

is the Matrix a rip off of blade?

hmmm not sure I see it myself... I couldn't compare the Matrix to any other film as the colour scheme is so damn GREEN... makes me feel sick at times. I prefer the atmospherics of Blade anyway... Snipes is a whole lot cooler than the pasty-faced heros of the Matrix (yes even Lawrence Fishburne:D )

The reason the screen has a green hue to it alot of the time has intensionally been created by the directors. It indicates that they are in the matrix. When the colour returns to "normal" onscreen colour they are in the percieved real world. I recommend you watch the full 3hour making of, there are lots of mad mad things like this all the way through the film. You will then see the film in a different light.

I know that the green colour scheme signifies they are in the matrix (although at no point does it return to what I would call a natural colour scheme) but it still makes me feel sick

I like them both. Actually I like The Matrix more. A lot of films are somewhat similar nowadays, seems they are running out of ideas in Hollywood ...

One of the elements that The Matrix and Blade have in common is that they have been influenced by wire-fu techniques in Hong Kong movies. The styles used in both movies are justified. Infact within the matrix anything is justified. It's meant to be artificial so I think even the errors in there are acceptable.

Matrix is a lot more professional than Blade. It really was a ground breaking film.....

Blade is good but more in a couple of doobies and a few beers at 1 O'Clock in the morning way.

Although, I would rather sit down and watch Blade for comedy value :p

Sorry folks but Blades not in the same league as the Matrix and as for Snipes, I make sure I avoid all his films.

OK, I think we're getting a little into personal opinion here, rather than focussing on the original question posted.

I personally like both films very much, but the point of this thread was to discuss similarities in the style of the filming of the two films. It doesn't seem fair to compare the two films directly, since they are both very different in their overall plot and genre.

There are always going to be some people who will like some types of films, but not others. For example I'm sure that Matrix would appeal to a much wider audience than Blade, since there are lot of viewers out there who wouldn't like blood and gore type violence that goes on in Blade (even if it's mostly fastasy type stuff anyway).

Going back to the original subject, I never considered the possibility of similarities between the two films before reading this thread. Can appreciate the points made though. One thing's for certain though: there has been plenty of copying of the effects in Matrix since it came out. On that alone, it has to be considered as a seminal piece of work.

Take for example a scene in Blade at about chapter 30 or 31. The group of police come into a building with their boots thumping. It looks very much like a lobby with an elevator (sorry, I mean lift. Have watched to many movies (sorry, films)). You even here the"ping" of the elevator and see the door close. (instead of open, you have to make these films different!) One policeman points his rifle from around a pillar.

I wait for him to shout "FREEZE" and then I remember that that is from the wrong film!

The whole scene is virtually identical to part of the Matrix lobby scene.

What about 3D Mark 2001 and the game Max Payne!

I presume that this is a wind-up?

Chapter 29, Lobby shoting spree. There were some guns and a bit of shooting in it.

Surely you could add The crow to the list.
