hi im looking for a black pvr freeview box can anyone recommend one?
Topfield Black Panther.
Do any of the TopField units support non-DVB broadcasts? We don't have digital in our area yet, but I'd like to futureproof myself for when it becomes available.
Are there any PVRs which have both digital and analogue tuner support?
Nope. The only thing you might use is a HDD-DVD machine, some of which have both types of tuner, and all of which can also record from extrnal sources (eg Set Top Boxes). If you don't have Freeview then a Freeview PVR will be as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
You can also get a UK Thomson TiVo and exchange its lid and front panel for Black ones from USA Philips TiVos.
The UK TiVo has a built in analogue tuner and also supports an external Freeview, Sky, NTL, Telewest or Homechoice box.
So it is future proof until HiDef arrives.
Its software is state-of-the-art for the UK, but the hardware is over 5 years old now!
A number of Windows MCE boxes and the reelbox also come in black.
Good heavens is there nothing the Tivo cannot do.
TiVo can do pretty much everything -it has 7 years of great hacks written by thousands of users.
The only problem with the UK one is its ancient hardware, and steep Ebay prices.
I guess the Black Panther Toppy is the best black non-TiVo Freeview PVR
