Wasn't the sounds just as underwhelming in cinema anyway?

Black Panther wasn't ever a hard hitting movie soundwise... Why should it be at home?

Thanks for the review Cas, I did wonder if it was a 4K DI as it was a fantastic image, pin sharp with lush colours. Agree on the sound, I had to turn my AVR up quite a bit more than I would normally, but otherwise no issues. I really enjoyed the film too actually, despite having been there, seen it before. Now the world is established it'll be interesting to see where they go with the second film.:D

There is a typo in the second paragraph though (should be threw not through). :)

But which I thought made the real/CGI landscape combination even more obviously CGI. The studio waterfall rock face with people all over it looked more like a gym climbing wall than anything else. Too much detail there contrasting with the fuzzy green screen CGI waterfall surrounds.

Received my (4K) copy on Saturday, hoping a second viewing fairs a bit better as I wasn't overly impressed at the cinema and found the film unoriginal and unnecessary. It was an ok origin story but it didn't add anything at all to the MCU really. I found the likes of Ultron and Guardians 2 better on second viewing when expectations had lowered.

Shame about the poor audio again :(

I`m wondering are disney even aware of the audio issues on these disks, which goes as far back as Age of Ultron??

@Casimir Harlow , if you don't mind me asking, would you say that this was a better or worse track than Thor Ragnarok?

Blacks were crushed on this UHD. Check out the scenes in the apartment in the beginning and the ambush in the jungle at night. Total loss of details near black. Blu-ray 1080p reveals more details in same scenes and looks more natural

Such a shame about the Audio issues, do like this film and would have probably bought the UHD but having second thoughts now.

Surely someone at Disney should be picking up on all the negative feedback on sound issues?!

I re-watched Thor : Ragnarok the other night, picture excellent though the sound isn't the greatest like a few have mentioned, I had to turn my Amp up higher than usual, which is not a big deal but it was lacking a bit in LFE.

see from post 54. A few of us have emailed Disney to complain, seems a very generic reply is all you get.

This is all I got back

Thank you for your email about audio quality of Black Panther.
We appreciate hearing from our Members, and will share your comments with the rest of the Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment team.

Im just going to be the odd one out. I enjoy disney discs for their audio not being mixed towards effects, bass and music. I enjoy being able to hear talking and appreciate 95% of home watchers don't have a surround setup nor can they change each speaker's gain to make dialogue clearer otherwise. Perhaps when we have 256gb discs they'll add a second atmos track called "HEAVY EFFECT" which boosts everything but dialogue - Best of both worlds.

Many thanks for the review Cas,

I am really not sure about this film, It started very well with Andy Serkis stealing the show as usual. I liked Chadwick Boseman and Danai Gurira was excellent in her role.

But when Michael B Jordan kept on about slavery and over acting it kinda put me off. Not that I mind that type of film or the subject matter, Just not what I want from an MCU film at all.

Maybe I need a second viewing but my partner who loves marvel said she has no interest to watch it again.

You think that a movie written by black people for black people would have a more positive message.

All it shows is black people either committing crimes, bickering with one another, killing eachother and then killing the one black guy who has the right idea??

Didn't see it at the cinema but purchased on iTunes and was very very surprised with it considering that in America they've been bussing black teens to cinemas to go see it.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, the action was quite good in places and some of the characters were decent. 7.9/10

To be honest, it took me a few viewings to realise that I really wasn't that happy with the Ragnarok track; with Black Panther the lack of bass was a little more obvious for me because I distinctly remembered the bass blowing me away that the cinema. That said, I think there were more issues with Ragnarok which ultimately frustrated me more than here. I think (as I mentioned in the review) it's closer to what people got with Last Jedi; mixed low with less bass than you'd hope for.

Thanks for that. As I have mentioned in the Thor forum I have found that LFE improves significantly in my setup with DRC. I know that this is counterintuitive lol. Maybe BP will be the same for me.

I had to keep turning up the sound. Every time I thought this will surely fix it but it didn't. The volume was turned up considerably high to get anywhere near decent levels. I was very worried that I might forget to turn it down when switching back to other inputs. I didn't want to blow my speakers into orbit. I'm less than impressed.

That's interesting.... I remember Black Panther being bass light in cinema... the most was a bit of the hip hop music, but that's not exactly hard hitting either...

Then again, that's the same cinema that I watched BladeRunner 2049 in so perhaps I was spoilt :D

Either that or my memory is unreliable (which is possible in these situations, months later)...

From what I have read, no cinema really gives you proper LFE and from personal experience that is correct so far. But you should at least get decent bass. I saw Black Panther in IMAX so bass was never going to be a problem.

At home even with my set up I can feel some LFE effects so I might get disappointed with this. But then again it may be the case that using increased volume and DRC will improve LFE for me like it does for Thor Ragnarok.

Why have the reviewers given up on reviewing 3D discs anymore?

I think it's because most reviewer have upgraded their TV set, and they no longer have 3D support ? :)

If they have moved from a 3D TV to a TV that does not support 3D; I would call that a 'downgrade' and not an upgrade...

I was watching this last night, I thought the picture quality was good (OLED) but the LFE was lacking. When I saw this at the flicks it was anything but bass shy! Was one of the things that swung it for me was the sound track! Real rib cage tickling at the flicks, however I was constantly turning up the sub and thinking "this sin't right"..... sigh
