Thought this was very run of mill, despite a committed performance from Depp, it's a largely unengaging film with little narrative flow and never truly gets under any of it's characters skin.

Biggest disappointment of the year for me. Depp was good but the make up was distracting to the point of ruining the movie. You look at him throughout the movie and wonder why they had to alter him so obviously. It took me completely out of the movie. A very lacklustre film. I remember nothing about it. Wait to rent it I'd say.

Totally agree with all of that. Very average film with some cringeworthy parts IMHO. At the dinner table ....... only kidding. Cmon we've seen that scene so many times now.

I just couldn't get my head around the make up it really was distracting.

I thought it was pretty good, though I agree with the comment above about JD's makeup/prosthetics - in particular his contact lenses looked odd.

Quite entertaining though, if a bit similar to Goodfellas in it's treatment.

I enjoyed it. Good, but not brilliant. Well acted, but we've had better "gangster life stories" before, that felt more engaging. Goodfellas being an obvious example. Speaking of which, that copy paste scene really grated me.
