I have a Fusion 42 plasma screeen" and on standard setting, the black parts of the picture are very black ie: i can not see the details of a face in shadow etc. yet on other settings, Vivid for instance it is not perfect but better. Is this normal for a plasma screen or is there some tinkering to do?

Nobody loves you, mate. A decent setup disc, like Digital Video Essentials, available from all good globe spanning internet bookesllers named afer rivers, will help no end. Bottom line is though, you may be expecting too much from a bargain basement screen. Detail in shadows is a Pioneer specialty, it can even be a bit lacking on the Panasonic one everyone raves about here. DVE for £15 will help, I promise.

DVE is £13 from forum powerbuys....and well worth the money if a little difficult to follow:
depends what you have and how much detail you expect to see, there isnt always alot to see..............
