Black Gold TV Card (DVB-T) and Black Gold Media Centre

Does anyone have this combination?

I've been using a BG card in Media Centre for twelve months or so and I'm frustrated at having to mess about with DVR-MS files to archive to DVD. I was after another card so opted for another BG card but this time I paid the extra £10 for the BG Media Centre Software.

According to their site I should be able to save the recordings in a variety of formats. WMV and MPEG2 being of particular interest.

However, no matter which option I choose, the file always has a DVR-MS suffix!

Can anyone help with this? (I have e-mailed them about this and several other issues but I've read conflicting reports on the quality of their support line)

Thanks

Dave

Can you record in MPEG2 and WMV with the hauppauge?

That's no help is it? Why do you bother to post this kind of response?

Anyway, are you using these cards within Windows MCE 2005/2004 or are you using JUST the supplied Black Gold software?

If you're using MCE, that's your problem. MCe will only record in the drv-ms file format, regardless of what's running or installed on the machine. Not having used the actual Black Gold software, I don't know the settings so can't suggest anything on that side.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply constructively ;)

As I posted, I paid the extra money to get the software with the card that should give me a media centre like interface. All I appear to have got though is an application that will play back and record the TV signal. It interfaces nicely with Digiguide (right click the program in Digiguide and select record) and there is a drop down box to select the recording format including WMV 9 and MPEG1 and MPEG2. Whichever I choose the suffix is always dvr_ms. I'll do some tests to see if the quality and size of file changes.

Why dont you try media portal or gbpvr, i think these both record in mpeg format

and are free

I've had a look at Media Portal but there is a lot of work involved in actually getting an EPG, all of which I don't understand!

Thanks anyway.

I was hoping someone else had already bought the card and was using it outside of Media Centre with the supplied software. It seems I'm the only one, on this forum anyway!

media portal call pull it's epg from the digital tv service over the air now, the same as the standalone freeview boxes do. No more messing about with xmltv based ocnfigurations.

Thanks, I'll have another look at it.
