    Hi,
I recently got a Hitachi 46" widescreen and I've noticed that alot of the dvds still have black bars at the bottom and top. I'm guessing this is because they are a different ratio ( i.e not 16:9 ) . Are these bars bad , can they cause burn in ?

    Thanks
    Jason

Steven Spielberg was one of a group who pushed for 21:9 widescreen tv's which would have accommodated virtually all aspect ratios without black bars at top and bottom of the screen. However, for obvious reasons, 16:9 is a more practical ratio for manufacturing - and imagine having an equivalent to a 50" widescreen in your living room if it was 21:9!
