Just wondering in a 12x10ft room with the sub firing down from the right hand corner on a auralex platform parkee flooring on top of a concrete floor if the bk xls ff is a good choice with my setup? max budget is around the £500 mark new or s/h.

looking for something to go well with the mk 950s and the onkyo 818 till I can get a mk 350 :D

this really will have to be BIG step up from the velo cht10-r I have otherwise I will keep the cash and wait till I get a mk 350 lol

    movie 90% music 10%

You would probably be better of getting the monolith.

thanks moonfly I have been advised that the xls 400 would be better with mk as it is a sealed sub like actual mk subs? :)

Generally speaking I would say that correct. However, most of you listening is on movies, and the Monolith is the better sub for that job. The question of integration between subs and speakers is a different matter, and generally speaking a sealed sub would be better. That said, the monolith isnt part of the breed of ported subs that aim to dig as deep as possible, and instead it tries to balance its output between depth and retaining some of that more punchy sound you generally get from sealed subs the best.

The sealed 400 is probably the better of the two if you ultimate goal is perfect integration etc, but you have stated you want a big step up in performance as well. This being the case, and taking all else into account, I personally would say that your probably best of getting the monolith to achieve most of what you want. Thats my personal opinion anyway.

Thank you for taking the time to reply moonfly and for the advice :) i didn't know there would be a big difference between the mono and the 400 I know or think the mono goes down about 3.5db lower ? but the 400 is supposed to be tighter? i'm just wondering what the real world pros and cons of each sub with my amp and speakers is going to be? btw if im going the mono route would there be much advantage to getting the mono plus rather than the normal mono?

If you looked at the 1250 that was sold a couple of days ago on the classifieds the seller said he had tried an XXLS400 in the same room as the 1250 and the XXLS400 did not come close.

At £200 the 1250 was a bargain, I was looking at it myself but need something even better really.

If it was used an MX350 but to be honest they are usually £700+ which is too much considering the options available for £1100-1400 that would be better and new with warranty.

So in all probability a Gecko single 15" will be where I spend my money, although I would like to hear a KK 808 which I doubt will be as good as the 15" but is £1100 approx.

Its a shame as there seems to be a big gap in the market between the monolith/monolith+ at £500ish to much more expensive options at £1.3k+. I can't seem to find many talked about subs in the £800ish region!

Well DaviF is saying the KK 12012 is way better than the MX350 and I am expecting similar performance to the 12012 from the single 15" so the answer would be the 15 should be a substantial improvement on an MX350.

I have not heard the 15 yet though so it is conjecture at the moment + comments from folks who have heard the 15 already, I am going to gecko 24th Mar so should know for sure by then (MX350 v gecko 15).

A single 15" with a 3000 watt amp in basic black vinyl finish should be £1395.
