    Hi all,

I want to replace my Yamaha subwoofer. The subwoofer will be used with high and low level connections since I have a stereo integrated amp and an AV receiver.
The only reason for the upgrade is to enhance the music experience.
I narrow the selection to BK XLS200 and XLS300/PR. And my question is which one will be better for music.
I search this forum and others and I read somewhere (don’t remember where) that the XLS300/PR goes deeper and with more power but the 200 is faster (because of the bipolar amplifier) and consequently better for music.
Is this true? Or I will have more quality and control with the XLS300/PR
My listening room dimensions are 4,5meters by 4 meters by 2,65 meters.

    TIA
    Costa

There is a review on the 300 here.

    Taken from the review.

If your main consideration is music IMHO I would go for the XLS200. The bass on most CD's doesnt go that low that you would gain a great deal from any additional bass extension from the 300. It will also sufficient for the size of your room!

I have an XLS200 and it sounds fine with music.

I'm afraid that not every comment in the forum is 100% accurate and russ.will who has tested the XLS300 and also owns a Monolith will tell you that both are excellent with music.

In any event any of the three subs mentioned will be a vast improvement over your Yamaha and you should go for the best that you can afford or that fits in your room

The problem is the impossibility to test the sub at my room. My biggest fear is to get boomy and uncontrolled bass. In my opinion, until a certain point, it can be acceptable for movies but not for music…
Reading your comments I will probably go for XLS300 since other options I see are more or much more expensive like the SVS SB12+ or the B&W PV1.

    Thanks

None of the BK subs are boomy by design but any sub if incorrectly positioned and setup will boom

Dont know if anyone recalls, but I am sure BK used to say you can return the sub for another model if you are not happy!! If that were the case you could go for the 200 and if it didnt meet your expectations you could return it for the 300. May be worth calling them and saying you are member of the forums and if they would sell you one on that basis.

Bit more expensive over the water I know, but could be worth a shot!!

Based on what I see here, prices, performance and so on, I am decided to go for the XLS300.
Now I need to make the decision of spend the money...
