Hi guys, I think I need some help here...
Last night, while watching a movie, my LOVED Monolith started making a REALLY loud and scary popping sound, like if a couple of metal pieces were loose and crashing together everytime there were a bass content
It worked perfect first 10 minutes, as always, and suddenly in a bass scene, this thing started. No mater how much I turn down the volume, it seems to happen even then.
I inmediately stoppped the movie and turned off all the system to inspect the Monolith, and after testing the movement of the driver this is what I found:
...As you can see, even at very subtle movement of the driver, there is an extremely unpleasant attrition sound which obviously should not be happening...anyway, Im not sure what exactly the problem might be but Im sure you guys can tell me what is it...
I have had my monolith for 7 years now and it has always worked amazing...the thing is I only use it for watching 1 movie per day (or even less) ONLY 3-4 month a year because I have my set up in a vacations house so in all this time, my Mono as been used very little, like 1-2 years equivalent.
Also, I remember that my unit was already equipped with the subsonic filter and has the cardboard reflex port...so I cant understand WHY has this happened????, how is possible???...I remember people having the "popping" sound with old and unfiltered Monoliths but having mine filtered I cant understand how can this problem happen?¿?¿?...I have never driven my mono out of limits (rather the opposite), I have it filtered with my DSP1124 only to remove the peaks, at -7db in my Denon, at 12 o'clock aprox in its power dial and use to watch movies at -20 to -15db max calibrated at 75db so not going crazy here
Everything else seems to work perfectly fine, damn!!, yesterday it worked amazing as always and now this...
btw, the amp is perfect and I use to turn it off after using it, so I'm pretty sure that the problem is in the driver.
Well, that's all I guess...hope you guys can help me to understand what is happening and what to do now...
Many thanks all!!
