I think that you will be out luck as so far as I am aware only one Finnish member has heard the Gemini and the chance's of him having heard the Quake too will be fairly slim.

We need a guinea pig :D

dunno about versus, but if thats your price limit and the room isnt massive then the Quake is a fairly good little sub.....very nice with bookshelf speakers.......you might find if pairing it with floorstanders its a little outclassed if they already go deep and powerful tho.....
I'd recommend you audition it first to be sure......i like mine with my Mission bookshelfs, but my Monitor Audio Silver S6's outclassed it to so i got the Strata 5 as something more comparable....

Thanks for the feedback chaps....looks like the quake in black has gone from ebay - too slow! :(

    Now considering the MJ 50 Pro / Ruark 100 / BKxls200......?

Very interested in any of the above if anyone has them for sale..!!

I'm interested in a used Rherry REL Quake... but the 1/2 price BK Gemini is probably a great choice! ;)
And has an oak finish!

I would like to have more info too...

I've heard rumours that the BK Gemini is very close (although not identical) to the MJ Reference 100. So a Quake vs. Ref 100 -comparison might give a hint of the differences. Regarding these two subs there may be seasoned guinea pigs on this forum already :) .

If I remember correctly, according to a Finnish hifi magazine the MJ goes louder, but the little Rel (surprisingly) goes deeper (at least on the minimum xo-setting). I think Quake absolutely requires corner-loading, which also helps in not tripping on it :D .

I heard the REL Quake in a few setups and loved it!
I heard the MJ Ref 100 in my house and liked it too...

I would prefer the Quake because it's smaller but would prefer the MJ oak finish...

Maybe the Gemini has everything for 1/2 the price... :p

the Quake is actually quite nice in the grittex black finish...lol....its quite unobtrusive like that.......it also works well if your hide it anyhow, it seems to relish being boxed in for an extra kick.....

the quake does benefit from being in the corner, but its not strictly necessary, i had mine just on a wall for a while and it still gives you a very deep sound....but to get the extra weight the corner is useful.....

Thanks for everyones comments - and man, it's been a very tough decision!

3rd place - Rel Quake (cos it's £370 with a high level cable).
2nd place - BK Gemini (cos it hasnt had enough exposure as yet)

What finally swayed my choice was the... FEAR....

(The fear of getting an underpowered sub for 100 sov's more than this baby...)

    The BK XLS200DF!!!

Placed an order today and cant wait

    :D :D :D

Let us know how you get on with the BK. Very interested in one myself, as my KEF PSW 2000 seems to have developed the usual amp fault with this model and I'm still waiting for an email reply from KEF. :boring:

Myself, stu_mcc and eviljohn2 will be conducting a head to head with the Gemini, BK XLS200 and Rel Quake within the next few weeks. Look out for it, just waiting for the Gemini to arrive.

    Dear Jim,

Please can you fix it for me, so the BK XLS200 wins this test.

    Yours gratefully,

    Badhairday.

    :)

It will as BK aren't stupid enough to try and sell a sub that outperforms their own more expensive sub and those that have heard both the XLS200 and the Quake seem to agree that the Essex offering is the better sub.

Give Tom Pearce a ring at BK and arrange something with him if you want a listen.
