Bizzare problem with avi's in Vista media center

When i play an avi it "judders" much like 8mm film does when it's not spooled properly but the judder incorporates the VMC background!. If i bring up the transport menu with the mouse it then plays fine!! .mkv files play fine as do dvd's.

Any ideas please?

I re-installed the graphics drivers.

I have got the same problem, but updating drivers didn't help...
Any solution?
